Congrats on all that silver....

White's finds load of wilver!

Agree - with the DFX I usually find at least one silver dime every trip out.  It is like a silver dime magnet.

As far as DFX-Gregg, with all the clad he finds he can buy more silver then I could ever find. LOL

Congrats on that silver dime haul! Looks like the Roosevelts outnumbered the Lady!.........it is usually the opposite. In my finds, the Roosevelts are making a comeback.......5 to 7. Good work Torrero

Thats ok...my dfx is paid for in less than one season with the gold and silver rings I have found I had a guy offer me $150 for the last 2 I found(Only sold 2 of the rings I found this year for $70 this year...one gold...one silver.....crossing 6000 coins this week and $400 in clad does not hurt either! ;)  I would rather be honest then pretend I am finding stuff that I am not!  I had 4 silver coins early in year and that was it!

Oh by the way...fantastic finds! Glad to hear it was a dfx you found them with! Smiley

I've always been curious about your results, now that you mention the four silvers you found early this year.  You find a ton of clad and you put a lot of effort into it; aren't you able to hunt sites that will yield the silver?  I've also noticed a theme of skepticism about the silver others find; I am relatively new to this Forum, was there a problem with this at some point?  I've never noticed extraordinary claims here.

I have my goals and don't worry about what others find....my goals did not include silver...my original goal was 5500 coins...I found out with the time and effort that 5500 was to low...spoke with a couple genuine coin shooters that do not post their numbers and have found more then anyone posting here ;)  and they said I could hit 10,000 coins...  Now I realize i can...it took me a few days and a couple of calculations...plus (added hunts) to figure out I could.  Now I am set on making it and passing it! Smiley  If I stumble across some silver as I have the 17 quality rings i have found that is great...if I don't...as someone said....the clad I am finding more then makes up for it!  I do have a lot of wheaties, old nickels and other types of silver..rings , bracelets, pendants...just the silver coins been eluding me...that is ok...I will survive!      Don't get me wrong, I admire your quest for 10,000.  That's an average of 27.39 every day this year and weather will probably deny you a third of the year at least.  So, you're probably having to dig at least 40 a day to compensate and you're doing way more than that.  You must be a lot younger than me! Correct you are....
But it was in fact the DFX....
I think that I have had only one other day with this much silver in 20 years...
so its very rare to see this much.

I believe the park to have been hunted because even though I got a few modern coins,
it was very few compared to places I've been that have not been hunted in a while.
you would find a lot more pocket change around the playground equipment, and we found
almost none of that.

In three hours of walking around I had 7 quarters, 2 dimes (clad) 1 nickel, and 5-6 pennies.
Not much clad for that much silver....

As far as digging 10,000 coins in a year, I assume its possible, you might not realize how fast
those coins add up, but on the other hand, I would be very hard pressed to find the number
of coins needed to make that goal on a consistant basis.
Meaning that I might find a place that has several hundred coins, but most of the playgrounds,
parks, schoolyards, ballfields and other likely places I hunt seem to be kept pretty clean by someone else...
don't know....

I love the sound the DFX tone ID makes when it hits silver coins!

Were you hunting with 15MHz only, or BEST DATA? If I might ask?

Thanks in advance!

First, let me just say "Congratulations, Torrero, on your silver coin finds!!!"  You had an awesome day!!!  What was the average depth of the silver dimes you found??  There was a park I went to a few weeks ago, and I started finding silver dimes at only 1-3" down....I thought this was very strange because most of the silver I pull out of parks here in S. CA is averaging 6-8".  I found out from one of the facility workers that the baseball field I was finding the silver at had been scraped about 6 months back.  Then, I understood why.

I believe some people on this Forum do lie about their finds.  They try to gain the recognition of a great find, or would just love to read all the "great job" replies from the forumites to be part of the "md'ing family".  That's really sad.  I, for one, would never make a fake post.  I have a few fellow md'ers on this forum as well as other forums that I hunt with a couple times a week who know what I find.  Even though I don't go out on my hunts to dig clad (I'm in the hobby for the old coinage + jewelry/relics), there's perfectly nothing wrong with others (DFX-Gregg, etc.) going out to reach new milestones/goals.  Nothing at all.  Some of us like to create a goal at the beginning of the year, and try to attain it by the end of the year.  I don't post my clad finds, just my silver/wheats/jewelry.  If I was counting my clad, I'm sure I surpassed 10,000 coins long ago.  I do have more hours of detecting time logged this year than most md'ers out there.  My goal is to reach 500 silver this year.

I have had to dig through the pain.. have had blisters from detecting and digging, just noticed a new one today.  But I really want to reach my goal...yes I dig pennies...my pcv> per coin average is still around 6.7 cents per coin...so that is not bad...not the highest but shows I am digging a lot more than just pennies...over 800 quarters and almost 1400 dimes...

White's finds load of wilver!

not according to dfx greg  lol     nice finds man

I would rather be honest then pretend I am finding stuff that I am not!

You do not really think people would do that do you? I would think it would  be a sad day for that to happen..

You must be kidding right?  Huh  I have had several sent me messages about being in clubs with the guy who always shows up with the key date find each month! Roll Eyes  Also have caught a few in lies on this forum.... Roll Eyes  Also have recieved messages from a few who sold coins and saw them reposted as finds by the same people!
I guess I am not in the loop...I never get the good gosip...sigh....Well that is pitiful....If I felt I needed to buy coins to post...I would never post...Cause I am too poor...I guess some people have more money than luck. I get lucky but I am broke....Man I am getting the short end of the stick.

There are always a few...sorry..this came from a couple of treasure hunters...and one has found real treasure! ;)

Don't get me wrong, I admire your quest for 10,000.  That's an average of 27.39 every day this year and weather will probably deny you a third of the year at least.  So, you're probably having to dig at least 40 a day to compensate and you're doing way more than that.  You must be a lot younger than me! Grin

I am 44 next week...work 12a to 8a so I hunt after work...still home by noon.  Across the forums I post I either get a lot of personal messages asking for the coin-o-meter to be put back up...or just the opposite they ignore my finds and don't respond!  I may put the coin-o-meter back up when I hit 7000 just so people can watch be struggle to 10,000! Cheesy

I did actually hunt in January thru the cold...but 0 days in February, some of March and lately was 3 days week with at least one 100 coin day to now just more hunts...sorry for changing this post...but your silver finds are awesome! Smiley  Great work...I have hit 1360 dimes this year (no contest needed I already know that is a lot)...2 silver rooseys and 2 silver mercs...and of course the last merc I could not read date and was worn thin like a potato chip! Cheesy Grin Undecided

Dan it is great that you realize there have been a few hopefully just a few really bad incidents.  Hate to throw a name in...but me and Ricardo that posts here...spotted one...sent each other a pm...questioned the guy (young man)  and he folded up and admitted to not being truthful! Sad  At least he was able to admit it!  Doubt that he and the others that have posted finds some other people are the only ones...My wife sees me walk in full of sweat after each hunt and watches me dump my pouch...she knows it means a lot to me to get to 10,000....I am starting to hunt shorter time periods but more often...I know there are some like yourself that get out a lot more..Goals are fine...but they have to be realistic for your area...where 500 silvers maybe attainable for you it may not for someone else...(like me) ...or at least not at the sites I hunt...I did hit a 45-d merc today...but clad and my goal are still my focus... ;)

Hey Gregg,
Nothing wrong with posting my name buddy. I'm still at a loss as to how some people eat up some of the posts we have been seeing lately. I've been online for years, and know the characteristics of people who's joy comes from the attention they receive from the replies to their posts.

I want to bring this post back to why all the true MDers read this site which is for knowledge and inspiration.

Torrero, Congrats again on the silver dimes you have inspired me to get out this weekend and look for my own silver dimes.

As far as everything else....who cares.  I don't get excited about clad but I'm happy for DFX-Gregg everytime he pulls out the manila folder.  I'm want to see him hit the 10,000 coin mark.  I'm not after clad or jewelery for that matter but I sure do keep what I find.

I have a list of goals that I'm sure some people on this site may think are silly or basic but they are for me not them and if someone doesn't like them I really don't care.

As far as posting something as found or dug that was not I don't get it but I'm also not going to waste my time trying to understand it.  In the long run I get nothing from questioning someones finds or motives.  If it make that person feel better who am I to say it is wrong.  That fake post may get me up early the next day and out hunting where I find a true keeper of my own.

If you challenge peoples goals or even their finds I think you need to find a new hobby because this one is just not filling your needs.  To everyone that posts..thank you for the knowledge, inspiration, friendship and entertainment.  I look forward to all the real finds and even a few of the fake ones.

Gregg - good luck with the 10,000.

Torrero - congrats for the third time and keep it coming.

I love the sound the DFX tone ID makes when it hits silver coins!

Were you hunting with 15MHz only, or BEST DATA? If I might ask?

Thanks in advance!

Ridley

I don't hunt in the "Best Data" mode as it seemed to be erratic when I used to use it.
I use the 2 frequency "coralate" mode. it seems to be less jittery, and will walk over trashy
items in favor of more stable items. So less digging.

The depth of these coins was about 4' - 5' inches, although I would have believed less actually,
as the came right out of the ground without much effort more than digging the hole.
The meter was reading 4-1/2
For some reason my DFX was having a hard time pinpointing the targets, and I had to call my friend over to pinpoint one of these for me.
Basically I got the signal, then it did not show me anything on pinpoint, I called him over, he
pinpointed it, and I dug it... I could not believe it was a silver dime, and I could not
get a pinpoint on the target.

That is odd...did you start to dig the hole before you lost the pinpoint? Huh  The reason I ask is pinpointing on the dfx for me is what allows me to dig so many coins...But sometimes I do lose a signal after digging and the hand held pinpointer always finds the target at that point....

By the way this turned out to be a great post!  ... Smiley

Thanks for the info, Richard.

I've never used that mode before. When I looked at the manual, it says "correlate"  may help eliminate iron signals. That might come in really handy, as my DFX  tends to read deep iron as silver. Especially big iron objects.

I'll definitely give that mode a shot!

Appreciate it!

I think the main difference between correlate and best data is ..

In correlate both signals/frequencies are processed...but unless both signals match..the signal is rejected.

This sounds right to me also,
I use the example of hunting a park with the DFX in Corelate and finding a few things,
solid items like a few coins, pull tabs so forth..

then I used a Tesoro that I had and was finding all these little pieces of scrap that I did not
seem to be getting with the DFX...

Something else I have run accross is the fact that if there is a big piece of Iron near a good target, I will hear the good target but pinpoint on the Iron.
I dig the Iron to move it, and lo and behold there is a good target where I thought.
Does not happen often, but enough to make a note of it.

Very interesting.
I've had the DFX go crazy while trying to find coins around old houses (using Best Data). Maybe correlate will help it calm down. In large open sports fields (Best Data) works like a charm.

The Barber dime I found with the DFX disappeared after the first silver tone. The only reason I found it was I chased the target in pinpoint (all metal). Even then, the pinpoint was off by a few inches.

I'm excited to try correlate!
