I recently started sorting pennies as a change of pace from halves.  I haven't been having much luck with silver so I figured I would get into copper.  With the prices that copper has been selling on ebay, I figured it was easy money.  I started sorting by hand.  It was fun but slow.  A couple of weeks ago I bought a Ryedale and wow, talk about speeding things up.  Now it seems too much like work.  I sort all the time.  I started selling on ebay and then had two guys contact me outside of ebay and started selling to them.  I am making money but I can't keep up with the demand.  It is no longer fun.  I miss the nights of sitting in front of the tv handsorting.  I think the Ryedale is going on ebay and I am going to hang up my penny career and go back to scrounging halves up.  Anybody else ever get burned out?  Anybody need a good deal on a slightly used Ryedale?

Ain't you the guy that has driver's ED going around picking up your pennies for ya.  Man if you can't do it noone can haha.  Sounds like you just need a break- maybe you could pace yourself.  Did your copper sales pay for your machine yet?  HH  Mark

Don't give up, just take a break like our friend LJ has done. Go fishin',play golf, whatever it takes to get recharged. If you sell your Ryedale you are just going to want another one when the snow is blocking your front door and you are bored to tears. Just keep hoarding the pennies and crank up the Ryedale once or twice a month. Copper is up and silver is constipated,go with what is hot. Cheers, Jim

Picking up the pennies is the easy part.  Yeah, drivers ed does all the work.  Returning the zincs is very time consuming thanks to a slow machine.  Yes the Ryedale is paid for.  Copper is selling great.  Like I said, I really can't keep up with the demand.  It is becoming too much like work.  I have this problem with all my hobbies.  I change hobbies too much.  I end up selling one hobby to pay for another hobby.  In fact, that is why I am thinking about selling the machine.  Years ago I had an AR15 and sold it to pay for some other hobby.  Well guess what I am wanting to buy again?  Yep, I am raising money to buy another AR15.  Crazy, I know.

How much is the Ryedale? I have never done pennies but at the moment I am still on disability and this may be a good way to make some extra money. I have also switched hobbies and evolved over time. Shooting the AR15 is a blast, pun intended. The desert eagle 50 caliber pistol is also a kick to shoot, pun intended again Grin  I have been sticking with 22 caliber pistols and rifles lately, they are more affordable to shoot. My 11 year old daughter got hooked on shooting my relatively new ruger single action pistol over the weekend. All of my 5 children love shooting, it is a great hobby. Thanks for any info on the Ryedale...Ryan

Tnfishdaddy,
I recently sold coppers for .02 a piece,  The market is developing for the coppers.  Sorry to hear it's loading you down.  I sorted $375 this morning, so I know what you mean, it can be time consuming.  (I cheated though and used two machines ;).
May I ask how much you are getting for your coppers?  Perhaps you just need to raise your price.  PM me or call if you would like.            Andy

Tnfishdaddy

What are you asking for teh Ryedale, and which model is it?

I'd be interested.

And does your machine come with the names of teh two people you have been selling to?  :-)  If they wnat more, and you can't keep up, then selling your machine means they won't be getting what you used to be sending them.  Can the new owner of your Ryedale get those two names, so they can keep buying from teh new owner??

If I knew I could get the copper sold I'd already have a Ryedale ordered. I just don't want to have a ton of copper cents with no buyers. Are there enough people buying on eBay to make it worth listing them minus all the various fees involved?

Hey Fropa, Ebay is okay but you will need to add your fees into the reserve amount(also include any Pay Pal fees). The shipping mongrels who try to sell low and then goose you with the shipping are a royal pain in the a$$. You might try listing the cents on Craigslist. Smaller audience but much less fees if any. The more of us who hoard pennies are going to directly affect the price we can sell them for.  Good Luck, Jim

You can report people like that to Ebay and they will pull their auctions.

I shipped 15,000 coppers from Michigan to Utah this week, Used two flat rate boxes, $8.95 Plus .65 cents Del Confirmation, and 2.05 Insurance, total of 11.65 each or 23.30 for 100lbs of copper shipped across the country.  Use double boxes, Shipping boxes are free, use lots of tape, and strapping tape for reinforcement,  build a box in a box, and put the coins in a heavy bank bag to start.  Like  54 lb brick upon shipment.  You'll get some daggers from the post ladies, but you can go up to 70 lbs each box.
Customer paid shipping and like I said above .02 cents each.  Boxing is a bit time consuming, but it's nice to sell some off after accumulating a ton of it.   Yes a real ton.
