Brief cleaning question....

Am I correct to understand that SILVER coins do not have that desirable patina that copper coins for instnace do? If so, how damaging is it to a SILVER coin to have is soak in vinegar for a few minutes and then neutralize it by applying some baking soda and washing it off under warm water?

What are you trying to clean? If you are talking dug coins, I always use a soft bristle toothbrush, warm water and dish soap. If the coins are dark it is better to just leave them that way.

Dug/bought [but not expensive] silver coins. Yep if it all has a nice black tint to it I keep it, but sometimes its blotchy and just hard to see details...the vinegar/baking soda gets the coin shiny and easy to read faded out dates [I just was trying to figure out of I’m completely destroying any value other then that of the silver content itself].
