BRENT! My guess is,, it might mean, Good Harvest or Plenty for All,, or it might have arsenic on it and be the reason it has lasted so long! And too make you question, whether there maybe more arsenic inside! td

so if you find something with arsenic on it, how do you learn that it Is there, without getting killed? next, how do you eliminate the arsenic if you find it? does it smell? is it odorless? can you see it? if there is someone on this thread that has a good working knowledge about it, would you mind explaining please? maybe the information should be posted on all the forums so all hunters could have less worry and be prepared just in case. Thanks in advance. === tenclaw===

On things like thatthere is an understood theory. First of all this set is cool just the way it is. I have no idea whether or not it is poisoned. Knowing that it is very hard to reach I am pleased to not take a chance. I have followed my creed and not moved the sign. I've left it just the way we found it.

GUYS! I have looked on the internet for any type of chemical that reacts with arsenic that a person could maybe hand spray on different areas outside and inside, that would let one know a head of time, if there was any arsenic present! But to date have not identified one. From what I have learned, it will burn your arms and leave scars, as for harming you internally I am not sure what it attacks, other hunters recommend a mask and rubber gloves! I once saw a picture, with a drawing/outline on a rock which depicted a man who was sitting down next to a probable entry, and his arms and face were tinted black, apparently showing he had been arsenic poisoned! This to let hunters know, that it was Arsenic Trapped! Slow and Methodical!!! td

Amen Tony, If you suspect a poison trap ... (SUSPECT) Do not Proceed without help, research, and a lot of protection.
Stay safe my friends, and remember that arsenic, just a little can become airborne easily. It can be a very nasty way to go.

Hey Brent...so easy to see so much in that bluff. I'm sure you have paid attention closely to all reddish light colored areas thqat may have been modified. A few things stand out. The left and the right rectangled areas look pretty suspicious to me! The left one..well maybe a man pointing left. The right one - looks like a ball in cave ) That ball definitely looks man made to me. The way that little area is shaped is different from any place else on the bluff. Below that - the arrowed formation looks like a head/face looking down. The middle rectangle possibly a bird beak there up on top...again looking down. Put the bigger size in negative and the bird starts to stand out. Base of bluff might be a good hiding place! Looks like a crevice around that arrowed area.

Hey, while reading a thread in Aztec Gold (Return of the Great Serpeant), I found a pic posted by Kanabite (out of Darrel's book) and have a question. What do you make of these symbols? (I am attempting to repost Kanabite's pic alongside one of my own from a site in SW Utah.) I am a novice at posting so wish me luck. You will, hopefully, see three pics; 1) the pic from Kanabite, 2, 3) pics from the aforementioned panel The two symbols are directly next to each other on a substantial panel and they are in the most bottom right corner of the "map."

Mannings Very nice pics. A few things I noted: Map 4- The top or forehead of this monument is a lions head,This may point out a trail or camp site in the distance. Why is the area washed out on the monuments side ? Just below and on the left of the washout is a profile looking right . In the foreground of the picture is a head with a pointer. Jim

Map 6-On the left of the pic is a large head. Is it looking to the distance or instructing you to look through the small hoya ? There is a face above the hoya looking at a triangle. The rock on the left of the main hoya is a face and may be instructing you how to use the hoya. Why is there a standing stone towards the right side of the pic ? When getting pics through the hoyas, try focusing on the distant areas of interest and include the edges of the hoya for reference . Have fun! Jim

Thanks Jim. Pic 8 is direction I BELIEVE you are to look through and you see what's in the distance in that pic. I also believe the "stacked" stones on the inside left of the hoyo are not natural and provide the necessary "proof." Thanks again!

Hi Mannings , hmmm, i got your email . probably the easiest thing for everyone involved will just be if i let the author answer that one in his own words . if you will send me a mailing address i will send you one of those books on CD . i have a few that i was given . it will have to be next weekend when i get back home. they are a "pay it forward" kind of thing so there is no charge , but you will have to allow a little while for the post office to deliver it . i am also going to forward this portion of this topic to someone else who knows allot more than I, about another one of your pics . i am kind of in a bad spot with not wishing to repeating someone else's research. so be mindful if you get a reply in the next little while , that might not be what you would expect the norm for this Spanish topic on T net , then , well , ya ...... i will also be quiet about the location in your photos , not that you told me but ya , its pretty cool down there. just a guess, but someone may have been after the silver..........

So many pointers to line up perfectly! Also, would you guys assume I'm looking through the hoya in the right direction considering the other direction goes off into a vast expanse of desert without any discernible landmarks???

Now that you mention it, yes. I concur. I definitely see the notch that created the shadow in the image of the other side. I believe he needs a set of binos when looking through the other side. Judging from how vast the background seems to be from the other side, I thinking zooming in to find what he needs is important.

Jim, You have to look close to even find some of them. I posted one early on where the hoyo was only an inch tall and 2 inches wide. The marker it separated out was in a field of stones that each could have been the pointer. Very good optics.

Guessing they had at least 10x and very well ground, clear lenses . Probably much higher power. Knowing what they were looking for must have been a big help . It seems to me that they must have signs telling the correct time and place to be, to see some important things . Hoping things will dry up soon so I can work on some ideas . Jim

Thom's window with pointer, from page two of this thread. What are these marks? My window with pointer. The first one is of the back side. The other stuff I found is in this post. I am not sure what they are pointing to since there is rock in the background. It could be totally natural. Seems really fishy given all the other I found.

In the Hoyo photo ... the small heart indicates the pointer to work from on the other side of the Hoyo.
In the bottom photo ... the square stone cut to fit the square hole indicates a covered shaft.
Yes, anything else is kinda reaching. Good try though.

The square cut and rock fit into it is really interesting. The "plug" if you will, doesnt have the sunburn like the rest of the rock meaning it is either a different stone Or the same piece cut from the big stone just reversed and put back into the hole. I would take tons of pics of everything close to it, especially up close and around the cut, and then see if you could remove it. There could be something on the other side of the plug, or under/behind it. That would be my main area to check.
that is just my opinion. J

Just under the square cut plug, bottom right hand side, there appears to be a prop rock. It is very small. Behind the plug is a solid rock wall. The whole mound appears to be exfoliating granite or concretion type rock. I have never noticed exfoliating sandstone. If it is solid rock, I doubt it goes anywhere much further than the rock wall seen inside the doorway but behind the plug. It may just be a pocket space back there with some loot in it. I see signs that say climb up the mound next to the plug and inspect the area from above. I see an eye, a boot, a man climbing, a view hole, and square plug. Left to right in that order.

Ok....how tall is the grass? I rarely find desert grass taller than waist high. Normally it is ankle high. That would make the square plug about palm size, right? Right? Crickets.....hello? Could the owner of this picture tell us how tall the grass is? It looks like a death trap for a cricket.
UPDATE: I hope everyone wasn't killed by death traps yesterday. Crickets.....

Sorry, standing next to the "plug", the top is a little more than waist high. It caught my attention because the hole looked purposely cut out, more than the look that the plug had been placed/returned???

It caught my attention because the hole looked purposely cut out, more than the look that the plug had been placed/returned??? You may find these with the plug removed when the Spanish came through. These I find were left by the ancients and have something to do with what the Spanish were looking for. I have pics of these that are 6 x 6 foot square. or bigger. The Spanish NEVER left one plugged. (I don't know why) but if I were you, I would take a hint. Just to make me feel better though ... Please put the plug back when you find nothing behind it.

thom, going back to post #195, is that death trap set up to protect something or is it simply to kill or injure the unsuspecting? thanks for your time. In the crack behind the stack of rocks, that is where the cache is. It is back filled with small rocks and gravel. We followed a three mile trail to this place. (one of the longer treasure trails I have found) They usually only last about a mile and a half.

Sorry, I was so bored yesterday and the board moved so slowly I could hear my hair growing. I sat in the office all day yesterday. Guess I was losing my mind ;) They may be telling you to follow the trail up to find another type of stowage compartment somewhere else.
Here's a few "looks like..."

General Question: What is everyone's best guess as to a "typical" type of treasure room/vault/tunnel location? Meaning, I would THINK that a critical point would be secrecy and the ultimate spot would need be such a place they could be assured no one was watching??? So, were they more likely to select canyons or I realize, too, I could be waaay off on my general assumption.

So, were they more likely to select canyons or I realize, too, I could be waaay off on my general assumption. Since I have not found any loot yet, I will give my opinion based upon myself having a bunch of loot to hide. I would not think it would necessarily need to be in a secluded canyon or such. 500 years ago, who was watching. Even 100 years ago. Who was watching you take those pictures? To me, it would have been in a place that no other people traveled, or didn't travel mch, (at that time). Given the word currently extensive population, people are travelling EVERYWHERE. As I marked up in the picture earlier, my guess is that you need to follow the (apparent) signs to the left of the plug, for your more secluded location. To me, the signs on the left are telling you that you are going to need to climb to find the next clue or the end of the trail. I can't see anyone putting any loot in a hole next trail markers. The markers don't even seem that complicated. Either there is nothing behind that plug, the signs are false leads, or there is something to be found further down the trail. The sign that looks like an eye, to me, does not fit the same motiff as the boot and the silhouette. Maybe I am just seeing things. In any case, my opinion is to follow what is on the rock before you move the plug. I can't see anything of consequence being behind there. If this is in the same area where you showed the J.T. Morse writings, I know there have to be cliffs in your area. I saw it on GE. Maybe you are looking for a cave or entrance up on a cliff wall and it might be plugged with caliche or fill dirt. Maybe the plug is part of the clue. As I stated before, there appears to be no compartment behind the plug, it's only waist high, and would to too easy to loot someone's treasure from. HH

HH Blind, Thanks for the response! I am actually not referring at all to the plug as it is not in the "Top 20" interesting things in the immediate area. The area has cliffs, washes, rivers (small) and many canyons. I was only hoping they would want to find a secluded spot to stash, as it greatly reduces the searching area. All pics are in the same area (1/2 mile). To answer your question as to "who was watching?" Indians. Most everywhere in the U.S. had indians that "knew" who was around and what they were up to. This area is no different. My dad once told me the indians didn't care and would never dig up the treasure. With all due respect to me dad (and realize I could be wrong), I staunchly disagree. Number 1, the indians WOULD care what was going on in their lands and NUMBER 2, the Spanish (or whoever) would not assume they wouldn't care. Thanks again! M

That is a good assumption on your part mannings. I can never argue with that idea. When the Spanish came through this country the indians made friends, they worked together and the natives learned the signs and symbols. (Then the indians got pissed for several reasons and drove them out.) Many of the caches were moved and rehidden mines were covered and signs were destroyed. Much remains to be found.

In my opinion, more of a guess, the so called plug is also an eye catcher. I would take plenty of pictures at a different angle and at different times of day to see which shadows that might develop around the plug seeing that the rock is not a tight fit. Also I would check out the rocks and pile of dirt to the site of the plug. Also see how the rocks are laid out. If you remove the plug check out the rock it is sitting on. Also what you are looking for might not go back in the solid rock but might go down. Check for rock maps that might be burred there. Make sure you mark North and South on the rocks before you remove them. Take plenty of pictures so you can put it back the same way. Good Luck!

Your sign is definitly chiseled and detailed. It wraps around the stone to the lower right from the upper left, and across the face with details I can't make out. Do you have pictures of this from other angles that show more of the stone?

Negro: That stone in the background of you photo (at the top) looks like it may have some kind of corresponding mark on it. It looks to be a duplicate of the lower right curved marking on the front stone.

Another angle on the subject of the square rock plugged hole. Could it have been simply a cache site for EQUIPMENT or dried food? I mean, it isn't designed to be "invisible". Maybe it was designed to keep wild animals away from a food pack (jerky) or extra equipment such as pouches of flints and steel, shovel heads, pick heads, etc.

Here is one of the ones that I have found with the plug removed. A solid wall behind it. At the 3:00 position and 9:00 position are a pair of owls. But no other marks to speak of.

I personally don't think Square markers of this sort are Spanish. The owls however may be, These are in an area that runs parallel to a very distinctly marked Spanish trail.

Thom, I see the Owl at 9. Peg 'A' seems like it could have come from slot 'B'. However, the distance from 'A' to 'B', plus the nearly level appearance, makes me think that it was pulled out and layed to rest in a meaningful direction. Could the 'plug' have been a set of instructions that would have be used once reaching the location indicated by the pointer stone?

Mike, The "plug" is missing all together. There seem to be a multitude of these square markers of varying sizes up and down this canyon. Some are marked as well by the Spanish, Others have the plugs pulled and stand as empty as this one.
One of the resons I potographed this one is because of the specialty signs included, and their positioning. There are puzzles of all kinds in these trails. Welcome to one of mine. LOL

Just thought this bit of beauty was interesting. Strange notch in the mountain side, ja? Found it just up the road from the triangle rock arrangement from a different post.

I thought you might enjoy that, Thom. Truth be known? I never noticed that until just before I uploaded it. I was going through a jump drive to see if I had any pics to salvage. Not having had a clue at the time about anything sign related, as with the triangle rocks, I just captured the moment and moved on. Yes, they certainly do stand out! OH, the things I now know I have missed!

Heheh okey...i will say this..you sure know how to make a girl happy. Those are gorgeous! So lovely! That shelter..if it is man made...is interesting. Not really big enough to sleep in or is it? Well blackened ..i wonder if water or smudgy fire did that. There seem to be a campground across from it on the "island" The boulders in it seem purposely placed...maybe. There seems to be at least one suspiciously squarish like carving. Then that hole lower right. The water level could have been a lot higher back then. My first thought would be...trail marker of some sort and important because of campground there. I can not think of any manufacturing process that would require a shelter like that! I mean the flow of water does not seem like it would cross the shelter interior. I wonder if you are suppose to stand on it for some reason. Awesome pics!

Native American mano and matate were then used to grind the corn. A matate (or metate) is the large stone on which the grain is placed. A mano is a smaller stone tool (or rock) used to grind corn or other grains. It is rolled over the matate to break down the grains into a powder.Dried corn kernels were placed on the matate, a large stone. After years of use, the matate developed a groove, allowing archeologists to determine roughly how often the tool had been used.

You pretty much have a handle on why they would use a frog. I do know of one on a semi dry mountain top but it is still within a quarter of a mile of a creek.

Were you ever able to get back to this cut in this mountain? I would be interested in seeing the next and the last signs as seen from here. they should be readily viewable unless they have been removed by erstwhile hunters looking to tear down history.

No, I haven't been able to get back. Thought I might make it this summer. It's 500+ from the house. I haven't found an excuse to head back that way. This is just a couple of miles up the road from the triangle markers I posted. I would love to get back and get the high resolution image.

Tis very late and I need to open the office in about 6 hrs....actually Brian said he would open it....if I can manage it, I might sleep in for a lil bit. Not likely....as you might have seen on facebook...got some crazies running around shooting at my former coworkers out on the reservation. www.kwso.com and www.ktvz.com have the latest updates and not much for a bit now.

something else interesting from the site
In this picture I was just noticing the absence of lichen on some of the exposed rocks. From my recent geological experience lichens can be used for the dating of materials. In this case, the colonization of lichen on the displaced (squared off boulder front and left center) seem to indicate something, but what? Have you explored the area around the square cut? ~Seeker~ I know, i'm new at this but I love problem solving and innovative ideas.
