I'm looking for someone in California (or, possibly, Arizona) to help me optimize my metal detecting experience. Specifically, I'm looking for someone willing to do legitimate, careful investigations and make specific (very specific) recommendations about where I can go for day-long nugget hunting outtings to prospect with a Tesoro Lobo Super Traq metal detector.
I'll be traveling with my wife, who also likes MD'ing as a past-time. We're in our 40s and in good shape (relatively speaking) so hiking, scrambling over tough turf, etc. shouldn't be a problem for us. We've done lots of walking in deserts and mountains over the years. We have a Honda CRV so we can get to some places but truly outback spots might require some help (like a lift in a Jeep... see point 3 below).
We both work full-time so we don't have a lot of time to do the research needed to figure out where to go nugget shooting such that we're simultaneously legal and have a good chance of coming away with some nuggets. Therefore, I'm willing to pay (in cash or percentage of our findings) for someone to:
1) Keep us legit. This means doing the legwork necessary to make sure we are will be on public land that allows MD'ing or, better, on private claims where we've been given permission to prospect (with a MD) by the claim holder. The ideal person we're hoping to work with is someone who is intimate with the local claim holders and can make arrangements on our behalf to get us the permissions we need.
2) Produce very, very specific directions for where we need to go to. Again, we recognize the unique value that someone with intimate familiarity with the locales has. We'll need you to not only clear the way to get us onto potentially productive (and not overworked locations) but help us figure out how to get to them. Remember, we'll be coming in from out-of-town so we'll need very specific instructions on how to access the right location (such that we don't wander through private lands without permission, etc.).
3) Possibly, make arrangements to have us transported to the final location(s). We can get anyplace that has a paved road. If we need to hike or scramble from some parking location, that's fine. If we must travel on unpaved/rough tracks we'll be willing to pay for a prearranged lift in a high-clearance vehicle (drop off and pick up at some specific time later).
We are not looking for people to hang out with us while we prospect. Frankly, we enjoy being alone and like our privacy. We aren't looking for partners to go with us. We are looking for someone who has the ability to clear the logistical hurdles for us in return for reasonable compensation.
Sure, we could figure this out for ourselves. There are plenty of resources available online and in local libraries, county assessor offices, etc. But the point is that we would prefer to leverage the value found in someone with legitimate and intimate local familiarity with the mountains, gullies, streams, ledges, tailing mounds, etc. in their area. Clearing the logistics to make sure we have the right permissions for land owners, claim holders, etc. is something that we are willing to compensate someone for... so long as the compensation request is reasonable.
