Greetings everyone! Arrived home from work this evening and decided to walk to the park for a quick hunt. Battery was low so I grabbed the other battery pack, loaded in some fresh batteries, and off I went. Wasn't much happening for the first 30 minutes. Moved to a different area and got a weak signal. Couldn't do much with pinpointing, so I did the best I could in detecting mode. Dug down about 5-6 inches and found the target. My first thought after a little wipe of the finger was that I had found a second 1914D wheatie. I thought no, it couldn't be. Detected for another 15 minutes than headed home. When I arrived home I grabbed a magnifying glass to check the wheatie. I couldn't believe it!! It is my second 1914D wheatie, and it's in better condition than the first. I never expected that. Digging wheaties can be exciting after all. Thanks for looking.
Happy hunting to all!!
Big E
The first pic is from a short hunt on Sunday, the second is the 1914D from tonight, and the third is my first 1914D wheatie. Sunday and Monday's hunt were from the same park.

You lucky T. hunter I have dug over a 1000 wheaties not one key date, maybe semi key but that's as good as it gets. You just don't see to many key wheat backs. I think that one belongs on the BANNER.

A key date coin is one of a series which is either scarce, rare, or much less common than most of the other dates in the series. One example is when there were fewer minted with that date and mint mark than other years. Big E

Hi ky keith, key date means a rare low mintage date...such as the 1914-D Lincoln cent. Only a little over 1 million were minted.

E OUTSTANDING, CONGRATS ON THE BANNER. I remember when my Dad found a 1914d back in the 70's that really got my brother john37115 and I in to the hobby, He sold it at a gun, knife and coin show in Oklahoma way back then for $90 and it had a nick on the edge where I hit it with my digger. I was just a kid. I even wrote a song titled "1914 D" to honor that great memory. I posted it here on Tnet last year you may be able to search and find it if you care to take a listen. Note to self, move to Nebraska, follow Big E. Great find I guess that most of the million from that mint were spilled in your back yard, or so it seems.

Hard to believe that each of those pennys are worth over $200. a piece. That is incredible to find $200. in the form of a penny.
One of the kellyco ads had an example of a person finding a penny worth over $37k after auction fees $41k. for a penny that someone dug out of the ground. Made of copper not gold or silver copper.
