Last week we invited a woman to our detecting club meeting who has been searching for foundations for years. She's been documenting where all the foundations are in the town she lives in. She has an album full of pictures of cellarholes that we drooled over. We love this woman and her album of detecting possibilities! On a side note, she also dowses. She taught us the techniques for dowsing, what happens, how to hold the rods, etc. I won't get into that, because I know the controversy that dowsing causes on Tnet. It was very interesting. So she talked about her experiences hunting down these old foundations, and she was nice enough to let us hunt her property. She lives in an old house and there is a foundation on her property. She, also, mentioned in passing that maybe we could find a couple of gold rings that were dropped around her house. It was freezing cold today with temperatures in the 30's with a wind chill of 100 below zero...but I shamed the guys (girly men) in our club into detecting anyways. Schrecky, Mamo, and I detected today. When we arrived at her house, which was built in the 1800's, our intentions were to first search for the rings for her, then maybe search the foundations which were up the road. Mamo Schrecky I started hunting close to the house where there were plenty of signals but.......because I'm a lazy hunter and it was freezing-butt cold, I decided to hunt away from the house with my back to the wind, in the area she said the ring might be in. Ten minutes into the hunt, I got a great solid mid-toned signal of an object 3 ½ inches down. Here's what I found. I took some pictures and hurried to the door, rang the doorbell, and showed an astonished and happy woman the solid gold class ring that her nephew had lost before he even graduated from high school. She didn't call her nephew and tell him, she was going to put it in a ring box and wrap it up for him and surprise him with it. She's going to email me pictures of her nephew receiving his long lost class ring. Here are some items that we dug today. Mamo found a indianhead penny, some wheaties, and a nice piece of costume jewelry. Schrecky found the only silver of the hunt along with plenty of wheat pennies. Thanks for lookin'! UPDATE.....look at the end of this thread for comments from Bob, the man who lost the ring, and for pictures!

Mona is correct, it was very cold. Although the temp was around 30 (which isn't to bad here) the wind was steady at 30 to 40+mph. It was very difficult to walk into the wind so we tried to keep the wind at out backs. Mona's find of the ring was "text book". She took it right to the house and the lady was so happy to see it and gave Mona a big hug. We hunted non-stop for about three hours and spent another hour talking to the nice lady (who is 81) and her daughter and again looking over her incredible documentation of cellar holes. Mona says we now have enough places to hunt for the rest of our lives. By the way, Mona opt'ed to stop hunting before me

A picture of (at least) a thousand words, Mona Lisa, is that pic of you and that young 81 year old chick, very cool I'm not a doubter of dowsing, but if that ability is what has kept that Lady looking so healthy, then I'm all for it. What a fantastic story about your treasure find; the balance, still to unfold Banner Worthy, t'be sure Mike

You did find what you were looking for hey That old lady seems like a treasure chest for sure, at least as you say you will have places for a long time to comefor treasure hunting. Show us the pics when you get them of the giving of the ring over to her son, it will finish this story of nicely. God bless Peter

Thanks everybody for the replies of congratulations and sweet responses. The lovely foundation and dowsing woman, I'll call her LB, emailed me saying how overwhelmed her nephew was when he got his high school ring back. Unfortunately, there are no pictures for me to share with you. It was a very touching event for all of them. LB and I are going to go out cellarhole hunting soon, so hopefully I'll have another story for you. She is an amazing and spry 81 years young and raring to go!

Here's an email that I just received from Bob, the owner of the ring. These pictures were taken in the place where he lost his ring and where I dug it up yesterday. Thanks for lookin'. After 45 years my class ring being lost, it was found by Lisa. I lost it the summer before my senior year. My Aunt and cousin both have been looking for that ring every time they go out in their yard. When I was at their house, I would look around , never thinking it would be found after so long.
I was really surprised when my Aunt & cousin came to my house yesterday and handed me the ring. What a nice surprise!!
Lisa, I served in VietNam from 1966 to 1968. While in VietNam I wore my wife's class ring until one day it came off my finger and was lost. I know she would love to have her ring back, do you travel that far to find things..LOL!!
Thank you again for finding my ring.
Bob

Congratulations Lisa for finding and returning such a valuable piece of that man's history. You are AWESOME for doing that and the looks on their faces was worth every minute in that cold (at least I hope YOU think so ) That's quite a place that woman lives on, looks like a dream spot to me! Hopefully you'll be checking all those cellar holes and find all kinds of goodies..don't forget to show them off! Nice job Nat

Heartwarming story Lisa!! I'm sure you were just ecstatic to find that class ring but you have to be downright giddy at the thought of all those new cellarhole sites. Good karma is surely headed your way!!! Jerry
