Well I finally managed to get out for a hunt. Slow start this year as I could have been out 3 weeks ago...but my wife has been away...I didn't get out in the fall either as my wife was away then as well. Been a loooooong time coming.
I have been wanting to find one of these for quite some time now, and I was stunned when I cut a plug and this sucker popped out.
Silver heart shaped trade brooch, also known as "Luckenbooth" brooches. This piece dates to the 1760's. Unfortunately it lacks a makers mark, but I'll take it!
The quality of this piece is awesome, and it is made from high quality thick silver, unlike many trade silver pieces. This one was most likely worn by a British Officer during the Seven Years War.
I have a slew of other odds and ends which I will post tomorrow. Too tired tonight...and sun fried!

Like I said on your thread on the other forum, beautiful find, and rare too. For it to have survived in such great condition is really something. I've hunted several 1812ish sites over the years, and i've never come across any trade silver. I think I need to find some pre-1812 sites to have any luck. Great to see you were able to make a great find given the fact you haven't been out all that much, you deserve it!.

Wess thats a sweeeeeeeeet find brotha !! BEAUTY ! I love the early trade silver. A bit surprised theres no mark on it. The trade crucifix my bro Rock dug back in 2004. We had that a good long time and could'nt find any mark on it 'until' he dunked it into the ultra-sonic cleaner for awhile. That method took off enough embedded dirt to find the little rose stamped into it. The rose was so small it was still difficult to see ! I do believe most trade silver was made up in Canada I bet theres something on it , can we get a photo of the back ? GREAT find Derek
