My Uncle has some land here in Austin T.X..He said that the midden was so dug out that I would be lucky to find a broke. He was right untill yesterday! While pokeing around,I found a large tree stump that had been covered with throw. So I started to dig around the  roots,(that always worked out in the past)First I found that Fairland & the Mano. The other point and the broke followed shortly after.Thinking that I had found A un-dug spot ,I went to work pulling up the stump.Well long story short,I was right!I found both drills within 30 mins. of eachother!(just long enuff to do my happy dance..lol)I have only been looking & collecting artifacts for less then 3 years.Tools are my fav. & I always wanted to find some drills, paleo.& to be in the cornertang club.Only in my dreams did I think it would happen in the same day!Thats how my best day ever went.Thanx again gang....Geo

Fantastic finds....  Shocked

Det vi vet er så uendelig lite mot det som har hendt. Arkeologen er som den som går langs en strand og finner småtterier, skyllet i land fra et forsvunnet skib. Men selve skibet som gikk i dypet med menneskene får han aldri se.

I'm not sure about value as I don't buy or sell anything, but I'm sure a pretty penny. It is however a very rare find. There are very few corner tang drills that have ever been found. This one is museum quality.  Maybe someone that knows more about them will chime in.

Congrats on the banner Neogeo, it's very well deserved. I am really a novice when it comes to native American artifacts, how would this "corner tang" be attached to something and what would they have used it for. I know its called a drill but what did they "drill" with it and how would it have worked becauce the handle/shaft that it was attached to would have been offset? I would think it would need to be in a straight line with the handle to get good leverage with it?

I agree with Bruce, I think you have a cornor notched knife that has been resharpend so many times it is about wore out. You would break it if you tried to drill with it.

That does not change the fact that it is a fantastic find, and well worth being on the banner as well as $$$$$  thumbsup

Congratulations on the artifacts and the banner.
Those are some great finds, especially the corner tang.
Do you know what kind of material the corner tang is made of?

Also I was wondering about the point pictured below.
I was wondering if someone can tell me the name of this type
of point and the age period that type  comes from.
I have found a few broken ones of that shape and haven't
been able to nail down what they are called or how old they are.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Bruce and Treasure_ Hunter. Most likely a corner tanged knife that was resharpened into a drill. Takes absolutely nothing away from the significance of the find or the rarity of the artifact. Another example of the resourcefulness and ingenuity of those who were here before us. Very banner worthy.

Hey Geo, I remember seeing your cornertang on the A.D. site, nice find...I would still be doing the happy dance...For the man that asked about hafting, the only example of a hafted cornertang that I have seen is in Dwain Roger's book about cornertangs...
