This is how I found my second Gold Coin of the year:

Friday I found a Bishop Stortford 1667 token.  This token sparked an interest by Shaun7 who lives quite near that place.  He looked up a couple of farms in the area, gave them a ring, & the rest is history!  THANKS SHAUN Grin

I was extremely lucky to find this, the field we tried are some of the hardest I have done!  I was pleased with the Medieval Buckle.

Its a Gold Half Guinea 1777.  Strange thing is that a few years ago Cru'dad had a Guinea of the same date - spooky!

After Shaun7 dropped me home, I went a did a short hunt on two different fields.

the first we only had a few buttons & 1 scrappy.

We decided to do two strip of freshly harvested Wheat, & detected whilst he was combining.  Glad we did, I had one of the best large roman coins I have ever found.  The price is not too far of the Gold one from earlier - what a day!   (hard to picture but its very nice!)

The only thing stopping me this year is my body!  I haven't even started the proper season yet, the Wheat is only just coming in.  We are ready to ramp up the Roman count & take some holidays on the fields icon_thumright

Thanks I appreciate it.

Maybe sometimes I make it look easy, but I look back on the years of nothing much & wonder what I must have been doing wrong.  I do honestly surprise myself with things like this.  I nearly turned around 2 paces before this coin, but pushed myself a little further & got it on the turn!  It was terrible long stubble as well.

I'm really building for some more great finds as soon as all the Wheats in.  We discovered some good sites last year with some hard work & it will pay off this year.  Our newbie friend has also a great site we are itching to do.

What is amazing about this very large roman coin is that it came from one of our most hunted Villa/possible Roman Watchtower sites.
I'm 100% sure I have detected over this coin/area on more than 10 occasions.  Must have been out of depth & popped up this year.

It sounded like a good signal but never guess it was gold Shocked  I dug it up & thought gold foil to begin with.

On the question of digging every signal:
(my settings are basically all metal with no discrim (gives better depth), & therefore I hear all & let my ears make the choice to dig)
I vary my approach depending on a number of factors/conditions.  As a generalisation I dig most iffy signals & 80% of the iron.
On new sites with lots of iron I ignore it, so as not to waste time.  This had 2 bits of iron on EVERY swing, so not practical to dig all.
On sites we have done for years, I clear every iron nail/tiny piece of lead (sometimes 2mmx2mm blobs)!.

TOO BUSY TO DETECT, YOU'RE TOO BUSY!!!

Same for me .

On sites I've been doing for years I dig every single signal iron included ; On rare occasions it also happens that I have to remove a few inches of earth ...where I guess there are more targets buried out of depth . It pays off sometimes ...

Crusader my friend.  If I make a trip across the pond to England, would you be willing to take me to some of your "less prized" spots?  Coming from America, anything I could find would be my find of the century!!!  Those are AWESOME!
