Steel Workers Tag

        A few weeks ago I got for a short hunt down at a local park. This site used to be some old home places back in the early 20's. Then the city tore down the houses back in the 70's, and turned the land into a public park.  I always tell myself if "Nothing else, there's clad to be had", I had been there about an hour, when I got a nice hit on the IDX, this place has produced some nice finds in the past for me. This day would be no differant , after pinpointing my " sounded like a buckle" target. I started to dig the plug. The ground at that time was dry as a bone. The weather was hot and muggy, sweat just rolling off my forehead like large rain drops.

        I dug about 8 inches, stopping to inspect the edge of the hole. And right in the side of the hole was this disc, kinda lika a egg shape. I began to remove the object from it's tomb. I gently wiped away the incrusted soil that covered it. With a little more wipes, I noticed some letters, then made out some words. And there in the middle of the tag were these numbers, "1733".  I could just barely make out Gulf State Steel Company across the top edge of the disc. Down at the bottem read , "Alabama City Works".

My days at this place have been memorible to say the least, but never forgotten..until next time - KEEPA DIGGIN

What do you think the tag was from, a hard hat maybe, a name badge?

Funny, I believe I know ya. But on to the tag, I think it was hat pin. On the the back are spots for welds. I htink it's form the 20's or 30's. Neat find, guess I'll start a collection of steel workers items, um.....another collection.....

I think it is an ID Badge.. I have saw them in the past attached to those brown hardhats they had to wear...

Hey Mr.Hudson I just recently started the detecting hobby since i have found all the coins that i can in circulation. I live in Gadsden and would like to get some input from you on some history around town and maybe some dos and donts of the area.
