Just make "click" in the google's shortcut on your desktop and start to search. This is my hobby-research saturday at night and I had found many abandoned old spanish fort around Caribbean and South America.

I use my Blackberry version of Google maps in a similar way, but first I create a custom map which can be accessed by my Blackberry:
