Last Sunday I headed down to to the beach to detect while Hurricane Bill was passing up the coast. I met up with Bootybay and Boobird and a few other treasure hunters were also on the beach. there were huge cuts in the sand and I was hunting about 3 feet down, mostly in the wet sand.
I met a guy named Dan who is in my South Jersey club and we chatted a bit. I said to him, " I don't know why I'm hunting here...I have never found anything good here yet." He went on his way...and not 5 minutes later I found this ring.
I assumed it was fake as it had no markings and was so large. In a magnifier I couldn't find any flaws in it either. Well today I took it to the jeweler and he said..."THE DIAMOND IS REAL!!!!!" I started shaking. He said it is a cushion cut...1-1 1/4 carats maybe as high as 1 1/2 carats. He did not test the band...he said "what does it matter? the value is in the stone!" He estimated $4,000 if the smaller size and as much as $10,000 if it is 1 1/2 carats.

I have had the same thing happen, thought I posted something and went back later to look and it was either never posted or just gone. I don't think the mod's deleted anything but maybe there is a glitch somewhere? Anyway, Awesome ring Definately banner worthy. HH Charlie

Beautiful ring.....That is usually the way it happens, complain something never happens and it does. I made a bet with Cotton that Hurricane Bill wouldn't come with in 500 miles of the coast of central Florida. Purpose of the bet was for me to lose, have it come 490 miles off the coast, throw 8 foot waves on the beach, and give me some goddies............Just when I am counting on Murphy's law to bite me, and hurricane come 490 miles off coast, it does the opposite and goes by a thousand miles off shore.

I always am inclined to think from a woman's perspective, at how they feel when they discovered that they had lost the ring. God, I would vomit! WHY on earth do women wear such nice jewelry to the beach???

Well I never take my jewelry off when I go to the beach! lol but I also don't wear anything like this that could possibly come off under any circumstances. And as the jeweler said. It was probably insured. Anyone with a diamond like that should have it insured. I would be so sick too...

I hope you take it to a better place than a gold scrapper or pawn shop. I know a great lady here locally who does professional appraisals for 40 bucks. Wish you were closer so we could let her look at it. Talk to a couple professional jewelers about appraisals and see if you can find someone who is GIA certified and charges a reasonable fee. Dont leave it with anyone, make sure you can watch them perform it, its kinda fun and you dont want them swapping out the stone!
Congratulations again, could not have happened to a more deserving person! Anthony

Deb!!!
Congrats on the banner!!!
My wife keeps telling me I should do some beach hunting, and I ALMOST went down to the shore after the last storm, but the jeep saw a dirt road and turned against my will. (Jeeps can do that, you know!)...Anyway, that is a FANTASTIC find! You showed Dan that he isn't the only one who can pull the valuables out of the sand!
Let me know next time you head down and maybe I will meet you guys down there (just to keep my wife quiet for a while).

Unless she was certain she lost it at the beach, some woman probably tore her house and car to pieces hoping to find her ring under a sofa cushion or behind the dresser. Probably also had some 'splaining to do, Lucy!! - Grizz

Holly Crap !! Real Bling, That's so beautiful !! It is funny how your first appraisal said that what dose it matter about the band the value is in the stones !! That is very cool shows he is honest because most people would be like the gold guy and offer you melt value on the gold and nothing on the stone. They make a killing that way and it is wrong one of my dealers/coin shops dose this and it is not cool. Should be laws on these kind of guys.... People spend $1400 on their loved one and they break up and they lose $1300 because the pawn shop gives them $100 for the gold and nothing on the 1/2 ct. rock. Now this happens to millions of people all over the United States and its just wrong.... Oh well back to your item, they usually put real stones in 14k gold or higher. Anything lower normally are fake stones. Real stones are almost never put in plated gold. If you can keep that that is awesome. I myself could use $8,000 but if you can keep it that's awesome. You already had it appraised you need to get it insured now and I guess you need a written appraisal to show to the insurance company. At least that's what I would end up doing myself. Awesome job on the ring that is amazing !! Keep @ it and HH!!

I totally agree with Moon! I know Bootybay & Boobay are tickled pink for being with you when you found the ring. I love the ring, looks good on your finger too, just be careful that someone doesn't bonk you over the head to steal it off your hand. Congrats again!! RR

My aunt Bee lost her family heirloom and it looks exactly like that one you found. And she lost it at the same stretch of beach! I can't wait to tell her you found it! You're a great girl!

WOW! Debbie that is a super find of a life I am really glad it is on Banner! Please be careful when you take it for anyone to look at DO NOT let them take it out of your sight for even a moment. I told some ont to please not and they dropped the whole try of small stones on the floor and when I had taken them in a couple of years before when they were still in the ring they said they weren't real. They were miner cut from my grandmothers ring.

Woah... Sweet Nellie. (I think that is an old southern term, since I am from the south.)
That is a really remarkable find!!! Bet your radar system (belief system) is going to be working quite differently now that you found that ring with your detector.
Hope you find more.

Holy Smokes!!!! I must put on my sun glasses to look at that rock!!!! Well why oh why do women wear their jewlery to the beach. Well there are two reasons I know of. 1. I have had so many women tell me in the past 10 years of beach detecting that No Sir! This ring will never slip off it's tight on my finger or fingers. 2. I have to be seen wearing my bling blings they go everywhere I go! Oh and yes on several occasions, they have actually tapped me on the shoulder or approached me a little while later asking me to recover their lost ring. You know the beach people go there put a ton of sun tan lotion / oil on themselves, bake in the sun for 2 or 3 hours, rush out into the water to cool off, fingers shrink a little and while they are frolicking in the surf off slides the ring! Thus their jewelry is officially deposited into the surf bank for recovery at a later date!
