Right on the top of my list of favorite relics to dig, along with Large Cents,Old Silver and flat buttons, are suspender clips. Such a personal item compared to coins, they always give me a special feeling of "time travel"  Cheesy
Would love to see some more examples of these if you-all get a chance, thanks and HH!!!!

Here's a matching pair, found the second one at the same homesite as the first. Had just said to BBoy, that it's funny how we never find a matching pair at any of the homesites we hunt. Then after 10 months we revisited the site for the third time and boom, my matching pair came true. Then we have the others I have found.

Thanx for the good pix of the wide variety Jerry.   The ones found in late 1800s/early 1900s in CA look just like those examples.  Whenever I find those age/strata indicators, I can just *feel* the seateds and barbers about to be dug next  tongue3

Yes, that is unusual--but I'm seeing a pattern of finding the match at the same site.  I have one and a piece of its match from the same site; no two of any of the rest of them are the same.

This is a Cool thread, Jerry.   hello2

I'll wait a few posts before I thread-kill with a reply full of a hundred clips.  Wink

I found the first one of this early type back last October.  It turns out they are circa 1850.  The ID this was sent to me by Don in SJ.  The symbols are the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, although the fox and the keys don't fit their typical symbols.  Perhaps from a certain chapter of the time.

scan0004.jpg1850Pat.jpg

The second one of this type, with hearts, was found recently at another of my favorite sites. Shown before and after cleaning with Aluminum Jelly.  As you can see, there was still some gilt remaining on this one.

Thanks for posting these, Merf!  The one on the bottom right looks like a sock or garter clip perhaps--and the one on the right side of the third row up is almost certainly the "tongue" portion of a pre-CW two-piece buckle!  Tnet member kuger can probably ID it for you.  He is quite knowledgeable about that era of two-piece buckles.

Cheers,

Mike, those are beautiful. I'd be proud to find those.  thumbsup
    Thanks RPG
I've searched 40 or more farmhouse yards.   As you can see they're a rare find for me.
I'd probably have more luck doing the fields.   Unfortunately they don't deep plow in
my area anymore.  I hope you at least found a few in the time you put into this hobby ?
If you did i'd like to see them Smiley   And, i hope more people here will post theirs too.

Well, the grounds frozen, got snow on top of it.  So, i figured i'd add my finds
to the showroom.  Found these in the last 3 yrs.   I have a few more, but their
either damaged  or i'm not sure their suspender clips icon_scratch
I'd be proud to find some like the ones posted by you people notworthy

Mike,

Those are Wonderful finds!  I think you did find a match to one I posted up above.  Considering the variety of these items, it's looking like it's rare to ever find a matching pair.  But we now have three cases of finding a match at the same site.  Perhaps the whole suspenders thrown out, clips and all.   Tongue  Very cool.

I like the matching pair you found.  I haven't seen anything like them before in terms of design--and they are a great display item IMO.  Thanks for posting those finds.   icon_thumleft

Cheers,

Buckles
