Is this ring sterling silver? Its seems to say 985 or 785? Does anyone know if the symbol on top has a specific meaning?

925... Silver.

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.  --wiki

Hay,

That is a very cool ring.

It is probably the light, but it looks kind of
like gold in the photo.

It is not likely, but 925 can be a mark for
silver or gold.

Here is a 925 gold ear ring with a CZ.

It has been tested. It is not platted.

It is very soft. It bends easily.

925 gold and 582 gold are not common
in the USA. But lots has been brought
into this country.

If you Google "jewelry hall marks" you
can find more info on this.

Tagboy,
The image above your was a picture I found on Google. The ring I found looks like silver. It may be the lighting I used if you still think it looks like gold. Very interesting facts though.  icon_thumleft
