Hi from n/z, I was m/ding around an early constabulary site which was occupied from 1860 till 1877 then disbanded, only getting iron square head nails and on digging one at 9 inches heard a glassy sound..spotted a part of a bottle and carefully dug around and removed it ,no big deal but the historical significance is the big one for me..the bottle is crude about 75mm at the bottom..85mm at the (neck)? and is about 300mm high, but the top seems to be broken off like one would do with a knife opener !! I would appreciate an experts veiw on what would have been in it..and does the age stack up to the late 1800s..the bottle is crude and wobbles, has air bubbles through the glass and it has a seam both sides of it..thanking all in advance..des from n/z

That is a pontil bottom. So I would say bottle made before 1870. With top gone hard to say what it was. Unusual to have that clean a break.
