Double Gilt button, who's the maker?

Hi, I guess I don't understand. I have a list of makers (Waterbury, Scovill, Robinson, etc.) but none of my searches tells me anything about Guilt Buttons. I can't seem to find a website that lists everything.

Anyone have any better websites for buttons?

... like these I've dug, they don't say Scovill or Waterbury, so how do I know what they are? The one on the left is Robinson, but the others?

I too would like to know.  I dug a flat button that on the back has Double Gilt as the backmark with a little bow of somekind at the bottom.  Anyone out there have a button book that can id these buttons?

Robinson is 1838-1848 but for the rest its hard to tell some big makers like scovills and others sometimes only put simple backmarks but some button books will show you what they stamped implace of there names . A lot of the buttons your talking about came from Europe and its imposibale to find a maker, but most date in the early 1800s.

 Thanks, I've referenced that list also. But like the button on the far right, reads "RICH GOLD COLOUR", maker? Could it be European?

There are gilt, double gilt and treble gilt. I don't know if more than one company used those marks but gilt meant dipped in the gold gilt once, double gilt, twice and treble gilt, three times.   If you see a button with just plated on the back that was silver plated.  The rich gold colour is British. As far as I know anytime you see colour spelled with the u it is a British made button
