Hello everyone!

Ever get tired of reading posts with the all caps lock feature on? Well I do, and I know many of you do as well. I purpose that we make a rule to stop the usage of the all caps lock feature in posts, unless they are shouting when they are excited. When your reading a post and they use the all caps lock even when they are not excited, it gets annoying.

I consider myself an educated individual who loves reading about other peoples finds, but I do not want to waste my time reading posts that have the all caps lock feature displayed.

Please let me know what your opinions are on this matter.

Thanks.

You have a good point. It would be a good rule.
I don't think those post are necessarily yelling at us . I always thought they typed with cap locks on so they can see the  words on the screen.  glasses12

    Dear detectingfreak;
I am fairly sure that some members are not aware of proper forum protocols and I am also fairly certain that many members are not formally taught typists, therefore it is much easier for these people to simply type everything in large caps instead of having to try and manuver the SHIFT key. In all things, one must maintain a certain tolerance of others and instead of looking closely at the form of the post, we should try and concentrate on the content of the post.

There is already a rule about it,

    http://forum.treasurenet.com/rules

Don't "SHOUT" in large type. Use bold, red, or other special type only when necessary. (Exception: birthday greetings, special congratulations, etc.)

    LOLOLOL!!!

Well, I know that in my case, I practically study my hands when typing.  Even after all these years, I don't have it figured out yet.  I will occasionally hit the Caps Lock key when typing and not realize it for hundreds of words somtimes.  In a forum like this, not all the handy MS Word tools are available to reduce the post back to lowercase without typing the whole thing.  Since I won't be turning this into my boss or anything, sometimes I just leave it.

That being said, I always skip the ALL CAPS posts in the first place.

We all know there's no such thing as a "hunted out" location.  Let's stop using that phrase to describe a park out of which you just dug a pile of coins!  Obviously that particular place wasn't "hunted out", right?

Since there is no physical sound coming from the letters I personally don't see the problem. Just because someone made it up that caps means yelling, doesn't mean it is yelling. Why is it annoying?

TEST.....test,...... humm sounds the same to me when I type it, all I hear is the same tiny clicking sound for both types when I type it. laughing9 I have a bigger problem when someone who types and doesn't use any spaces or paragraphs.

    Absolutely annoying.

Those with eyesight problems can increase the font size on there monitor by using the browser option or the Handicap options Windows offers. They can even compose the message using a word processor (offline) using giant 24-point fonts and bold, if need be, then copy/paste that into the Message box here, on TreasureNet.

There are several "work a rounds" for the seeing impaired, but none for the viewer. Well, other than the Ignore feature.

The true value of the gold may be the story itself, a testament to man’s ability to believe anything for a chance at such a vast fortune.

If caps lock bothers you, you will need to stay at home and not ever go out. And please don't go to Walmart.  Cheesy

If I choose to type in all caps, then that is my right and there's nothing anyone can do about it because I have a caps lock on my keyboard and I am the only one that can touch it.

If you don't want to read posts that are in caps, then don't. You have the option of going back. If this is all you have to worry about, then you don't have any worries.

To some degree, writing a post in CAPS is a cyber-no-no, and yet many of educated people responding have done so in a rather light and comedic manner...

There are numerous posting habits that are annoying to some but not others, such as there those that elect to make a rather lengthy post as if its a long run-on sentance...with an occassional period but no paragraph structure.  And as such, I do not want to waste my time reading lengthy unstructured posts.

Or those that insist on being argumentative, or being a name caller, who likes to insult, or those that cannot or will not use spell-check...and so-on, and so-on...

The answer is simple...do like I do...

    Don't read the post.
    Block the post.
    Block the individual.
    Block the post category.

Is someone going to complain about me using 5 smileys in a row now?  If you can explain to me how someone typing in all caps has affected your life to the degree that you felt it necessary to start a topic on it, then perhaps I can rid myself of this sudden urge to flick you on the forehead and ask, "Really?"
