hello ,
        Are you all saying than an Gps  system will locate old places like old rds and abanded home places , or do yu haft to be there to put it in gps database , this is wayyy over my head , i know these questions may sound stupid , but if all this is true then im in luck ,

A GPS won't find anything.  It will tell you where you are while holding it, in whatever form you program it for (longitude/latitude, etc)  They will show where you have traveled with it since the last time you cleared it.  It will take you to the location that you programed into it just like one in a car.  Some maps you can download into it might have points of interest loaded into them.

You will have to find a site on an old map (survey, platt, etc), then find the site on Google maps or Bing etc, then put the longitude/ latitude, etc into the GPS, then it will take you to the site you programmed into it.
