not a metal detecting find, but I picked this up at a local dealer today for $1.25.  it definatley has a mint mark, but is there a way to tell for sure if it is a s or d?

If you got it from a coin dealer he checked it out. Even in that poor condition he could get more money than that from a coin collector trying to find that coin for a cheap price. You still got your money's worth in silver. thumbsup

If you got it from a coin dealer he checked it out. Even in that poor condition he could get more money than that from a coin collector trying to find that coin for a cheap price. You still got your money's worth in silver. thumbsup

actually he has big bags of silver that he has not gone through and was selling it at 12.5 times face.  I also pulled a couple of nice walkers, a SLQ, and a decent barber out of there.  there is too many coins for him to go through and chaeck them all out, so its kinda fun for me to stop in once and a while to poke through it.  thanks for looking and all of your opinions.

You are right, with tons of silver being turned in to dealers nowadays, they just don't have the time to go thru 'em.  Coin is dumped on the scales, weighed, and paid.
