Found this yesterday in a old park in Detroit that dates back to the early 1900's. What looks like fake diamonds around the outside, hollow on the inside. Made out of metal, at first I though silver but I don't think so. A little bit heavy.

Does that thing open up at all or is it just made to look 3-d with the bottom being proportionally larger than the top? It is sure made like a pendant. The back looks weird.

I believe this is silver even though it does not appear to be marked. A base metal would be way more corroded. Loop is broken, probably fell off a chain.
1920's?

Are you sure those are "fake" diamonds? The size of the "tips" on each corner of the stones looks like what you find around "real" diamonds. Take it to a jeweler and see what you can find out. - Noodle

when you look through the back can you see the tips of the stones? they usually leave it open if it's diamonds, for better light refraction

Was able to get this in today and have it looked at. I was told it looks like it may be silver plated and the stones most likely are not real  . It was a neat find anyway. It is open below the stones and you can see the stones from the bottom. |

Agreed. I would be VERY wary of someone who offers to buy something if it isn't real, if that's what you are inferring. Conversation might play out like this: Jewelry "expert'" : "Did you take this anywhere else" (Red flag), or "did you buy it" You: No. Jewelry expert; "No, it's not real, but I might be able to sell it, I'll give you......" ALWAYS get at LEAST two opinions on stuff like that. just my .02 |

Thank you Degries for informing us of the outcome. Someone mentioned that it looked plated and the base metal can be seen on the backside but I guess everyone was hoping the best. Pictures can be deceiving. I was told it looks like it may be silver plated and the stones most likely are not real . I use a Potassium Dichromate/Nitric acid solution to test metals and it removes any doubt as to what "looks like" gold or silver. |
