Zippy, cast iron wouldn't dent, at least not that much. It could be to something else which snapped off at that flat point, or else maybe there's an outside chance it is a partially poured casting?

Does it stick to a magnet, and if so, how strongly?

I'm wondering if it is something inside of this golf ball thingie.  Can you scrap some of it off, and see if you MD will pick it up the tiny pieces?  If not, maybe there is a treasure inside.  BTW, when ever my machine jumps to 95 like that, it's generally a rusty iron item.  I'd like to know too if a magnet sticks to it.  Breezie
