Well, I didn't think much of it at first, but this thimble is rather ornate, or is it?  Dug it yesterday in a front yard.  Odd that a clay marble was stuck inside, but I coaxed it out.  I also dug 2 silver quarters, 10 wheats, 1901 dog tag, and other doo-dads.  Thanks for lookin, ffd

Absolutely beautiful and it looks very old.  I don't know how long it has been since thimbles has been sterling, unless they are collectors.

With a marble stuck in it I would bet that some kid took his mom's thimble out in the yard to play with it.  Stuck a marble in there cause it fit and then couldn't get it out.  Didn't want to take it back to mom and face the wrath, so just left it out in the yard for you to find.

Nice one, FFD!  icon_thumright

Is there a maker's mark?  The style reminds me of some of the sterling thimbles made by Simons Brothers & Co.  Here's their mark:

Thanks for playing. You lose.
