The range of avatars on the Treasure Net site is fantastic...some are very clever and inventive while others are downright annoying...
The reasons why a member has chosen his respective avatar are broad and worthy of discussion...
I firmly believe that many avatars represent the ego or personality of the individual? ...It's a personal logo...A mug shot...A relic...A coin...whatever...!
For instance does this logo represent a person who is aggressive...caffeine overdosed...living on the edge...or simply enthusiastic...? Or could be making a statement...this is who I am!
Why did you chose your tag...your avatar, that is?

The response to my avatar is usually, "What the heck is that thing?" It's the nib (point) of a fountain pen. I chose it because I'm an editor, and even in these high-tech times editors still sling a fair amount of ink. Yeah, I know it's a little old fashioned... okay, more than a little... but then, so am I!   |

I chose a picture of my classic Porsche to be my ego-logo...
At the time I built my profile, I had a classic MG-TC that I could have used, but preferred the back-porch...sold the MG to a buyer in up-state NY...
Sometime in the future, I may change to this picture of a carousel horse that I carved which sits in my residential courtyard...or maybe a Hobo Indian Nickel from my collection...
Do these reflect my personality or ego...definitely

Often wondered the same thing and sort of leaned towards a personality connection. My avatar is simply all I could think of when I joined-found in my yard. Was going to post my Triumph TR6 but didn't have a decent picture.
PBK-always wondered what the heck that was but now makes perfect sense!!
Stefen-yours always caught my eye-beautiful car!! That horse is awesome. How long did it take to carve?
Rando-wondered about yours too-thanks for clearing up.

Although I've edited a few books (nonfiction, various topics), I work mainly as a editorial consultant on magazine articles, columns, ads, etc. Sorry that I can't be more specific, but confidentiality is part of the package. Basically, an editor is someone who identifies other people's mistakes and replaces them with his own!  |

I think The Simpsons is possibly the most cleverly written program on TV. Most everyone in it is seriously flawed in some manner. But old man Burns is my favorite. One of my subordinates when I managed Code Enforcement for the City of Tulsa was a serious butt kisser and I got to calling him Smithers for obvious reasons. He didn't get it and proceeded to call me Mr. Burns. It just stuck I guess? Monty

Just rambling... Whenever I see an interesting post and it has an animated avatar, I generally will avoid it...the constant motion is extremely distracting to me and makes it hard to concentrate on the text of the message... I do enjoy most avatars and try to figure out the person and the relationship of its implication... Now, if its a mug shot...its easy to explain...duh However, what I have noticed is that a half dozen or so people are using the same or similar avatar of a cartoon character using a MD unit...where is the originality in those statements? A rare coin or a relic, on the other hand, indicates pride in the find... Think I will stop while I'm ahead (instead of being a behind) |

Sorry, I haven't posted in a while.
I try to change the avatar every 100 posts or so. Most are historic photos from near where I live and work. This one is from where I've been working all summer, doing restoration work.
I guess you could say that, in a way, it's egoistic/self promotional.
P.S.: Man, am I a dumba$$! I can't be promotional if you've got a postage stamp to look at.

My avatar is a picture of a towboat that I used to operate, the M/V Arrowhead. 142 feet long, 35 feet wide and 4200 horsepower. Used to push 19500 tons of rock in 15 barges configured in a 105 feet wide by 1000 feet long tow. It was the boat I was on when I joined TNET. Never really thought about it but I guess in a way it represents a way of life for me as this industry is the only real job I have had as an adult, and the security that being involved in the same industry for 23 years has brought me. Today its a different company, different boat, same industry.

I change mine all the time. I fence Olympic style sabre so had a pic I made of that for awhile.Then my dachshund who stares at me as I type on here. Now I have the constellation Orion because I am thinking of doing a mammoth ivory inlay of it in a antique cap and ball pistol this winter.
I always enjoy the avatars it should be what makes you happy .Wether it be a shiny car to a jumping bean bag or even maybe a dirty wheat Penney.

mine is a big heavy huge 925 sterling silver chain that wieghed on at over 1/2 a pound ! -- its next to a foot long ruler for "scale" --sold it to a "freind" that had to have it for $ 80

I wonder if anyone ever accidentally clicks PRINT at the bottom of the page? Oh .... Yeah ... The avatar thing. I used to have one from the show "Chilly Beach", but most people never heard of it. This one is basically a "get serious" satirical comment. Life's too short to worry the little things and even the big things can usually be brought down a notch with a swift kick to the groin. If I had an animated gif that illustrated every aspect of me, it would take lifetime's to view. I like to explore and view things in ways others, more often than not, have missed. It never ceases to amaze me just how much others miss. There isn't enough virtual film to collect and portray the images of my life of perceptions and perspectives, so choosing an avatar to portray myself, is more akin to a snapshot of a dust bunny in the limitless expanse of infinity, that is my universe. And yes, it is mine. Once I'm gone, it all goes POOF! I know I could have used some cheesy picture of my bike, (but I'm not finished building it yet), or some other image, (like a hot red sportscar, or Lear jet), to portray a guy and his midlife crisis, or maybe a find that defines me in this existence as I relate to the collective that we refer to as humankind. But that would mean that we are alike in more ways than we are different. And if that were true, then I'd be willing to accept the continued contribution of the masses to the eventual destruction of civilisation and our plant's ecosystem as we know it. Mine is all about me, I love photography, and I never seem to get in the picture, till now. I still love to detect, but on those days when my knees say NO! I get my camera out, and start clicking away. You can see samples of my photo's all over the place in "MY Daily snapshot" elsewhere in this forum........NGE

Mine is Animal Mother from the movie Full Metal Jacket, was using it when I was doing a lot of gaming online..mainly war games. Delta Force, Medal of Honor, Battlefield....spent many nights playing late, then paying for it in the morning. |
