on june 16th,1942 --4 nazi spys land via rubber boat from a german submarine 4.3 miles south of todays modern --ponte vedra inn 8-- they bury their sabotage supplies and uniforms and switch to civilain clothing -- catching a bus in town towards jacksonville , floridas train station then headed northward by train to cincinnati --where they split in 2 two man teams --one for chicago the other for new york city

another 4 man group was landed up north on long island near new york * --they are spotted almost right away by a alert coast guard man on patrol --they lied to him saying they are "illegal scandivan fisherman" and offer him a $300 "bribe" to forget them so they will not get in trouble * --the coast guardsman takes the money to fake out the men -- but then he promptly leaves and reports them --however before the govt people can get there they are long gone from the area --- the event however rattles the nerves of 2 of the 4 men in the new york team --the leader Desch and another Burger -- they decide to give themselves up  and turn in the others * --Desch goes to the FBI who at first thinks him a crackpot until he plops down $84,000 in cash given to him for payroll money for the project. --with his help they grab all 8 of the men -- 6 of the 8 get death -- only Desch and Burger are spared in 1948 they are freed and returned to germany .

all 4 of the florida men within 2 months of the landing were electrocuted --their sabotage supplies buried in ponte verda were found but nothing was said of any money being found with them -- one has to wonder --were they given a similar $84,000  bankroll like the northern group and if so what became of it?

easy I "found" it while researching some  old papers --* you can "find" many things including interesting facts and info as well as metal objects in the ground.

the article I read spoke of the * $84,000 the one  new york group had -- with the additional data you have shown --- clearly the other  group from florida 's money was also found as well  -- oh well its a dead issue now it seems . --end of the road .

    Good greif.

YOU may have found it today...but posting your ---*new found*-- knowledge would be more beneficial in Research/Techniques section, one would think. That's what those sections are for. They are slower moving, and easier to follow.

That could be why your Civil War 'Today's Find' was moved to the Civil War section   Wink

I did not find the part saying that they found both sets of money -- it listed the fact of $84,000 with the New york group --with your additional info you linked  --its clear both groups of money was found .--so dead lead -- case closed.--green check mark

Ivan, it's still neat... and you found the article recently, so thanks for posting it.
Some people only care to argue on here. If Jeff wants it moved, it'll be moved. His (Jeff's) is the only opinion that matters.

This thread is the perfect example of what a Today's Finds! is not.

I'll simply post the READ THIS FIRST! sticky-topic by Marc (owner of TreasureNet)

Please peruse our subjects BEFORE posting.....

We have forums dedicated to specific areas, AND specific subjects.

Unless you are reporting a find that you made TODAY, the "Today's Finds" forum is probably not the appropriate forum!

    Thanks!
