Detector used Detector(s) Used - Whites MXT & Fisher 1280x Aquanaut

Hi everyone, found this today at an 1843 house i have been detecting and am wondering what it is, it measures 2''x almost 3'' and is 5/16'' thick, it came up badly bent so i have done the best i could to straighten it out, there is an outer door that opens, then a small inner door that swings up and reveals a small compartment inside, i am going to post pics in order of opening, then the last pic shows the back side, any ideas on this would be great, thanks much.

the coin used for comparison is a nickle.

Chuck.

Don't know how old, but it looks like an old compact to me, hence the little door that opens inside (for the rouge)  and there probbly used to be a mirror where the empty spot is above that.........NGE

Yes makeup...that reminds me of a joke.

Why did the two blond girls put lipstick on their fore heads?

So they could..........."make up" their minds. .....    Undecided    Sorry, I couldn't resist
