Didn't get this metal detecting but picked it up at an estate sale for $20.00 I'm pretty sure it's German. I'ts made by W K&C Solingen and on the hilt is stamped 31.R (cursive "R") .4.61. and on top of the hilt is a stamped insignia like a crown or english letter. It is 26" long. Thanks...Rich.

Sry I can't ID it Rich, but there's plenty shooters around Tnet.
If you don't get an ID quick, try one of the gun boards... plenty of 'em !
Looks like an interesting curio to hang on the wall.

Imperial German Model 1898 Bayonet. You are missing some parts but complete with a scabbard in good condition can run over $200. In fact I just saw one listed for $265 but it was complete and in better condition.

Jesus Christ, do you guys have like an alarm that goes off alerting you or something? I walked over to the bookshelf and when I got back, there were three replies. yeah that's a new Pattern (n.A.) made after 1902. SOME were shipped to Peru, and some were used to supplement supplies in WW2, they used anydamn thing toward the end. but yours is more likely a Great War take home relic. |

OK, so it wasn't shipped to Peru, it was one of the ones that stayed in Deutschland. I was unfamiliar with that particular numeration, didn't make sense to me. By Imperial, do you mean Otto's boys?  |

There are a LOT of variables there, maker, provenance, old style, new style, scabbard, etc.. Surprised you didn't jump on this one earlier, Monty, you are "the man" with military relics. Which is why ANYTHING like that should be evaluated by a subject matter expert. I just use my photographic memory and then look it up in books....  |

A lot of things are sold on ebay at inflated prices. I have all the bayonets I need and I even use a '93 Mauser bayonet to dig with some times. It is a little long and unweildy but if I am in a rough neighborhood it keeps the baddies at bay just having it. Even at the true value of those bayonets, you got a good deal. Monty
