I went with Cru today to join Hammered on his fav field!  Thanks Hammered icon_thumleft

Loads of digging Shocked

New info> I finally recorded the Saxon fragment and have just found out it's only one of 3 known of this type and the first one
recorded, so today...I'm very happy Grin Grin Grin

Aethelwulf of Wessex's Dorib, c type from Rochester mint, Moneyer is ethelhere.

Among other bits I got 3 Roman coins, a tiny silver Maundy 1d and a fragment of either a Saxon or Norman Hammered
coin, either way a first for me and a find I'm well pleased with Grin

Update..The hammered fragment is of Aethulwulf 839-858.  King of Essex Cool Cheesy

I've also added a picture of a ring I found! I thought it was just a bit of wire stuck inside some mud Grin

Hi shaun,
I have just posted on Cru's finds saying that i couldn't wait to see your finds all cleaned up, but you beat me to it. As I said to Cru you were both welcome and I glad you both got some great finds. All together 6 hammereds came out of that field today, that makes about 15 in the last 2 weeks icon_thumright. I will just have to go out again Monday and see if I can add some more before the farmer plants the next crop. Oh and by the way a little less of "Old" laughing9.

I have a lot of American relatives and from an early age, what with them coming over for hols, I really love American coins. Compaired to the coins from when I was growing up (very late 60's shaun) they had so much more character and substance. Because of this I have a small collection that I really cherish. As my American Uncle always says " Knock the USA you had better have broad shoulders, fast legs and a bullet proof ass".

I knew it was special, but this period is near on impossible to fill headbang headbang headbang

If complete it would be a £500 without any trouble icon_thumright  Very sort after!

(SS my first thought was yours as well, I thought it was a bonnet Wink )  It was very puzzelling, almost to thick in some places for a late Saxon Penny but too big for a Sceat icon_scratch

You won't be drunk enough to swap would you?  Not the same unless I found it, what I meant was I would rather have that & nothing else, than what I had.

Yes, very Late Vicky or very early 1900s.

PS.  Didn't I say in the car that you may change your mind on how well you thought you did when you got an ID on the coin Roll Eyes

I would swap all I had for that one fragment, fills a big hole in the album.

Are you saying what I think your saying Grin

What about the ring Cru? Don't tell me.......Victorian Roll Eyes

You won't be drunk enough to swap would you?  Not the same unless I found it, what I meant was I would rather have that & nothing else, than what I had.

Yes, very Late Vicky or very early 1900s.

No, I meant, are you saying that I finally..after all these outings topped "The Crusader" Cheesy

And I'm not drunk enough to swap, ask me in about ten minutes laughing7

How did I know you were going to say that about he ring Cheesy

I have a bit of a cold Cheesy

Jee wiz Shaun, what a difference in a year.  I remember what you found last Sept and this beats that for sure.  Great improvement!  The fragment from an Aethelwulf is neat, old too.  Since you are finding more  we see more posts from you and that is also great too!  Keep searching.  If you compare what you have found this year with others, wow!
