Finds From the Last 2 Hunts. Big Silver Included!

Tuesday got out to the woods for a hunt with Kimsdad and Watercolor. I started earlier in another spot from where we met up and managed to find a lonely 1920 Merc on a bluff, and a few wheats as I was working my way over to meet up with them. No other goodies besides some clad. Overall it was a good hunt and it was great to see Neil and Mark again.

Went back to the same woods on Wednesday with Lookin4seated. We started early and rechecked a few of the places I was at the day before, as well as some new ones. The 1944 Washington came first about 3 hours into the hunt. Jon found a few goodies in the same place but we decided to move on.

As we were making our way over to where I met up with Kimsdad and Watercolor the day before, I came upon a large iron tent stake sticking out of the ground. I probably would have missed it but just happened to look down as it overloaded my coil. I thought this looks like a good spot to scan. As we start scanning the area, not 12" away I got a dime signal. Popped the plug and out popped a 1911 Barber Dime. Sweet. I filled the plug and started swinging again and got another dime signal 2 ft. away and dug the 1918D Merc. I yell over to Jon, "Hot Spot!" but I don't think he heard me. Maybe because he had his headphones on or because I yelled it under my breath. I started scanning again and got ANOTHER dime signal. I'm thinking to myself, "this is sweet!". This signal was shallow, about 2", so I cut a small shallow plug, popped the top, and in the bottom of the hole was a large silver disk. Grab it out of the hole, whipped the dirt off gently and realized it was a Barber Half. 1900S to be exact. At that point I let out a big "Whoooooooo". This gets Jon's attention and he comes over. I show him all the silver I just pulled out and he starts scanning around too. He got a quarter signal right by where he was standing and dug a can top. I got another dime signal and tell him, "Check this out", as I dig a 70's mem! Oh well.

After hunting the area for about 30 minutes we agreed the place was dry and we continued on. We walked around the woods for another couple of hours with nothing else but shotgun shells and iron. By the end of the hunt we were both hungry and exhausted. I calculated with the Google Earth ruler that we walked about 5 miles in some seriously treacherous terrain. But I'll say it was all worth it!

I think next hunt will be a definitely be a park though.

Way to go on some awesome finds.  COngrats once again, and I couldn't agree more that the next hunt or two will have to be at a park.  I'm still picking thorns out of my hands and thighs.  Ouch!

I saw one of those iron stakes sticking up, too.  I didn't think that it was for a big tent (at the time).  Makes sense, though.  I hope it wasn't the same one you saw!

Got a few of those large iron stakes out there too.  Somehow missed the associated silver!

Made it out today, got a nice low tone signal at one of the remote areas right next to a tree.  Cleared the leaves, saw some very old broken bits of fruit jar and got excited.  Fruit jar lids always come in higher, not lower so I figured this one must have had some nice low-tone stash before it broke.  Dug a nice wide hole around the signal to be sure to clear any precious targets and cleared away the dirt to reveal a pile of porno polaroids.  7 polaroid porno shots in all, mostly deteriorated but two with very clear imagery.

You just never know what's gonna pop up.  Oh wait, the polaroids solved that one too.

Thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't sure at first if it was a tent stake or not, but figured that's what it was. A little later I found a another stake a few feet away so that's what led me to believe that is what they were. Not to mention the coinage in the same area.

Supercongratulations on the silverado finds!

My last two trips out there got me some scout relics, sunglasses, stainless steel watch, scout pocket knives (2 whole + parts) 3 very old buttons - one with 13 stars... any ideas on origins of that? Lots of deep foil like jiffy pop popcorn sized aluminum pans, tons of tinfoil, a couple wheaties, a couple jefferson nickels and one war nickel 1943P, another neckerchief slide, an old Coca-Cola bottle and an old Pepsi bottle. The long aluminum handle was curved when I found it - I don't know if it was found near Lowbatts Polaroids or not, but it is engraved with Troop 69.
