pelican lake point

I found this in my field

I think it is pellican lake
if so, how old would this date to?

if not, what kind and how old is this?

I have found only a dozen or so of these in the last 10 years

Looks like P Lake. They are from the late Archaic period. 2600-2300 before present.

Great material on that piece, too bad it had to suffer the damage.

Nice petrified wood Pelican Lake Larson. 

This is one of my favorite point types as they are generally very well made and often made of beautiful materials ...Pelican Lake knappers were fond of high grade lithics.

The references I have state Pelican Lake showed up on the plains about 3000 years ago and lasted for at least a 1000 years. Smaller versions are also found in the same Plains region which suggests the culture experienced the transition to the use of the bow and arrow.

 I've read that Pelican Lake points are the finest notched form of dart point in the North American lithic industry. It's no wonder that we like them so well.

They are not an uncommon type found up here Larson. But they are very collectible.

Those are nice examples Larson.  

Quito's KRF example is is a mighty fine Pelican Lake specimen.  

They are not real rare but because of the way they are made nice undamaged pieces are fairly hard to come by.

I have found approximately 250 Pelican Lakes, but only about 20 unbroken ones.

I found this one back in 1987 (one of my first PLs).  One barb is broke off and maybe a slight flea bite to the tip, but it's still a nice point.  It's 2 3/8"

 I have read that Pelican Lake points seldom reach three inches in length. Here is one made of Smokey Hills Chert that we found in 2009.

Couple of very large and very fine P.L.'s 11KBP. I can't go any bigger but I can certainly go smaller. Here is one of my favorites that we found in 2004 next to the other side of the last one I posted. Sorry about the over sized pic. Hopefully this one will be better.

this KRF would be nice if it wasn't a broke

I found a frame with a few more mixed with some duncan-hanna, etc.
