I am selling 10 rolls (200 coins) on fee bay and as of right now im getting $405.00 ($2.02 a coin) after 22 bids. I have never sold 40%'rs before and was wondering what you guys expect when you sell. My auction ends in just over 4 hours, if you would like to see got to fee bay, coins, halfs, then type in "roll" and you will see it. Im not putting a link to it but its easy enought to find it. It may be interesting what they are selling for in an open auction, oh yea I started it off at 99c 5 days ago.

I would expect more on eBay.  4 hours still remaining, the bidding will increase especially the last 1/2 hour.  Depending on shipping being charged, they have been selling for  40-45 bucks a roll.  Larger lots should go for a bit more, if you marketed the shipping savings in your description by emphasizing the winner is saving on shipping by buying from a single buyer instead of 10 different buyers.

I have found also that if you offer free shipping that the over all profit goes up as well. 4 hrs. left you should see it go up. Good luck and let us know the selling price. Thanks.

Well I have it at $15 shipping with the insurance, I know people like to snipe auctions at the last minute but I wasn't sure if I could expect to break the $500 mark. I just checked the Coinflation silver melt calculator and for 200 40%'rs are worth $517. So hopefully I can get close but if not all of these only cost me .50c a piece. icon_pirat

I've sold some on Ebay and as Silver prices went up my net was  $1.86 the last time sold 2 weeks or so ago (Silver was  around $17).
Have been looking inot Smelters thinking they'd pay more- my Net would be better but so far figuring what they'd pay most are less than my Ebay net 2 little more but when figure the shipping & Insurance so far ALL of them would be lower Net than Ebay. Anybody else notice that too, is there a better way to sell them?

P.s. last 2 sells on Ebay were two 5 Roll lots of %40'ers, one went for 248.51 the other 252.01, plus $5 shipping. Wont sell them in any bigger lots cause the $'s add up and figure alot of people won't be able to spend that much at one time.

But if you have as many as I do to sell them small lots get tedious- was hoping Smelter was way to go. Seems like someone said they sold in Dallas and got 4731 for 1K face that would be real good, like net of 2.36 ; wonder if he was being less than honest(?).

No I hear ya, I guess its the price we have to pay for getting them at fifty cents apiece... I guess at the end of the day its all profit though. But the real question is how do we get a maximum profit? LOL

On fee-Bay my last sales went for about 2.26 (plus postage) or so per coin, but net only 1.86, have alot of them if anyone wants some and wants to pay more than say 1.95 and less than Ebay's going rate of 2.26 plus let me  know, %40's of course. Got alot that look really nice too.

I don't know about the fees but I started from 99 cents opening bid to get the less fee, but I have no idea about the final total. Oh and shipping is separate for my auction. When its all done I'll let you all know what its going to cost me to sell on feebay.

Sometimes they go up in last few seconds, but I've had them not move & sell for a bid made hours B4 auction closed. In fact one guy bought some really nice looking coins for 217, same day bought another lot of worn ones sold as worn ones (that I culled out they looked so poor), and he paid 228 for them, and got them seconds B4 close.

That's way I do it, start at .99 cents, 1 Picture and take advantage of NONE of the options that add to the cost, keeping fees to %16 .

Have heard of that B4, and something called Bullion Direct- Nucleo Exchange; guess will have to go to their sites and study their info- open account. The learning of new things gets hard[er] as the dog gets older, you know. I too wonder if any have sold to either if it is easy or, ..... . And pays more than feeBay?

eBay is expensive but it's not 16%.  You have a list fee and that is determined by the start price and how many photos and other bolding, ect you use.  It's maybe $.45 total if you start the bidding at .99 and use one photo.  You have a final value fee:

Example of a final value fee calculation for an auction listing:
You sell an item for $60.00

For the first $25.00 you pay 8.75%, which is $2.19

For the remaining $35.00 you pay 3.50%, which is $1.23

For this item the final value fee is $3.42 ($2.19 + $1.23)

You may also have a PayPal fee which I believe is 3%.

This doesn't consider any potential tax consequences that may arise if you start moving larger quantities of coins and ebay is moving in this direction for larger sellers. I also recently sold a small handful at a coin show the other day and received $40 per roll. Money wise it looks like it is worth the effort for ebay as long as you don't get stiffed by someone.

    Maine_Jim

For the first $25.00 you pay 8.75%, which is $2.19
For the remaining $465.00 you pay 3.50%, which is $16.10
For this item the final value fee is $18.29 ($2.19 + $1.23)
PayPal fee which I believe is 3% $14.70.

    $2.19 + $16.20 + $14.70 = $33.09

    $490.00 - $33.90 = $456.10

Paid per roll: $45.61 per roll

That looks right to me.  You also have shipping and insurance of course, envelopes, packing materials, etc.

For the ammount he was selling he will have to use the medimum size flat rate box. 9.95. If you do it on line through USPS.com delevery confirmation is free but insurence on that will be about $2.00.

Actually you can easily fit 4 rolls in a flat rate envelope or a small flat rate box, both at $4.80 online and the package itself is free at any post office.  However, being that it is over $250 you need signature confirmation for $1.95 to protect yourself through Seller Protection.

The small flat rate boxes are great.  $4.95 and I've fit 12 rolls of halves inside with room to spare.  I did wrap the entire box with tape to make sure that it didn't fall apart.

Does ebay take a percentage from what you charge for shipping.  I've noticed that the free shipping bids are higher but only by the amount that others are charging for shipping $5-$10.  If ebay doesn't take from the shipping charge I would just charge the $5 and save a couple of cents.

Then again if I had a dealer paying $4.20 on the dollar then I would avoid the ebay hassel all together and get my cash today.  The best I've been able to find around here was $3.70 and that was on a $400 lot.

Ok here is the total for selling on feebay:

    $475 - winning bid + $15 for shipping & insurance ($490 total).

    $21.64 - feebay
    $14.51 - paypal
    _______
    $36.15

    $475.00
       -36.15
    _______
    $438.85

So I still managed to make $2.19 per coin, or 4.38 on the dollar.

Quick question Fiend.  Does your $14.51 in fee's include ebay fees + paypal fees?  Thanks in advance.

By my figures he should in total fees pay about $76 on the 475 .

Your number is like 2x as much, it was only $36.15 for feebay and paypal and shipping I charged extra.

I'll bet your missing something- somehow, cause nobody gets by that low, unless maybe your an insider- do you work for EBay?

Oops, for some reason in my head I was thinking 4 rolls of 90%ers, so forget the line about 4 rolls.  You should still be able to fit 400 halves easily into a small flat rate box.  I can easily get 200 Ikes in them.

Obediah - When you use a buy-it-now feature, there is a higher fee, but your 16% is just wayyyy too high.  Use the Ebay calculator posted earlier on this thread and you can see what it costs exactly.

The only other thing that I can think of is that I have 3,338 transactions with ebay, after this last one I have 3,339 so maybe they lower the fees for people that has used feebay a lot in the past, but I doubt it.  dontknow

But remember, I started my auction off at 0.99c so it doesn't give me a larger fee in the end.

The fees are the same unless you achieve PowerSeller status.  Occasionally you will get a small listing discount but not on the final value fees.

2 years ago I was a PowerSeller but I haven't bought or sold anything for like a year. I don't know why my fees are different from anybody elses but you can see from the screen shots what feebay and paypal charged me.

Then I have no clue why Obediah is getting charged 16% unless he has a high start price or a high reserve price or something. I've always sold starting at 99c and with no reserve and whatever the item sells at is what I get. icon_scratch Huh

Me too, .99 cents, 1 Pic, 1 category- basically as generic as can get to get highest net from it. Do figure all my fees including PayPal in that total %16 .
