My nephew came up to me with this penny,wasn't really sure if it was minted this way or not.I told him I would post it here.....quick and easy answer I told him would be right here in no time.Thank's for looking and what excactly would this be called if indeed it is an error??

Your nephew has a good eye. I would take it to a local coin shop and have them look at it. I know of a few reputable shops in Maryland. It looks like an error coin, you may want to have it slabbed and graded if indeed it is an error coin. You dont see as many error's with more modern coins because of the mints quality control.
