It looks like the $179.95 is the suggested manufacturer retail price. so the end price will probably be about $143.96.  That's 80% which is about what the dealers have to sell at (or pretty dang close).

resistant -- is not water proof -- --water proof means ok to submerge --resistant normally means rain or quick short term light splash . --for $180 bucks you can not expect a totally " water proof" machine  -well actually you can "expect" it your just not gonna get it.

No way to manually ground balance?  Forget it!  No, actually just kidding.  Sounds like a very good starting machine.  Would love to read some actual field experiences.  The mags usually get an evaluation article out fairly quick.  Monty

The preset ground balance machines are usually pretty good for detecting in my area, other than the ocean beaches.

FYI:  I just heard back from White's regarding the operating frequency: 8Khz, which makes the detector a good all around machine for coins and jewelry.

as a form of cheater ground balance for presets --if having issues drop the sen. level till it runs smooth --its a "poor mans" way of ground balacing with cheaper preset ground balance type machines --yes you lose some depth but on the plus size you will be able to use your machine -- its a trade off.

It should be the same as all the other "Prizm" series detectors...
Threshold and GB can be adjusted through the back of the machine..
There are 2 rubber grommets in the back that can be popped out
to make this adjustment for your particular area..

To me, the only REAL drawback are the touchpads.  The least bit of dust or moisture between the contacts screws up tp's.

As a dealer for White's I can give you the following info:

The coinmaster is the same as the prizm 3 in every way as it pertains to hunting ability.  White's took out any extra thing from the prizm 3 that would lower costs but not effect performance.  This includes lower grade plastic.  It is is exact same "guts".  Cost wise, there is not the same mark up on it as the other machines.  White's gives dealers a 40% mark up on the machines.  This model has a cost of 140$ plus dealers have to pay shipping from the regional supplier to their shop.  This adds about 10$ to the machine. So you will see prices stay very close to the list price on this model.

I think that this is a wise move on White's part, but it makes dealers no $$.  For this reason I feel they will not keep making it that long.  Right now it is only scheduled to be made through Christmas.  Should demand dictate more production, White's will continue.

It's always good to have a low price point model to get the customers through the door, and then explain why the more expensive model is a better choice.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this hobby and I am looking for my first detector. There are so many different brands and models out there that it is somewhat overwhelming as to what to get! I am on a budget of around $200 and I plan to use this machine at schoolyards, parks, and playgrounds. I have been doing a lot of reading on various forums and "metal detecting review" sites. One of the machines that I am considering is the new Coinmaster. Any suggestions/comments??

Tom,

You cannot go wrong with White's, espcially at the price of the new CoinMaster.   Their customer service is second to none.  My first metal detector was a simple "beep and dig" White's PRL1.  I was able to pull Indian Head pennies from 7 and eight inches, and found many silver coins with this detector.  In fact, I still own it. At the time it was the best value at more than $300.  The technology has changed so much over the last ten year that a person can spend less than $200 and get features that were only found on detectors costing $600 or more!

There are a few similarly priced detectors in the same price range.  The Garrett Ace 250 retails for $212, and the Fischer F2 retails for $199 and comes with an accessory search coil.  I don't think you can go wrong with any of these, so why not save yourself some cash and go with the White's.

I had an Ace 250 and I was very happy with it, but i ended up coming back to a White's detector.

Does it have a volume control? Thats about the only thing I would like to have on my ACE250. Head phones are nice but when it's hot out I like to hunt without them and you can hear it beeping 3 or 4 blocks away.

You can make a small auxiliary speaker with a rheostat that plugs into the headphone jack of your detector.  Just be sure to use the same type of plug as is used on the headphones.  Use some sticky-back hook and loop pieces to temporarily attach the speaker box to the detector's body.

I just went to a site called metal detector reviews, and most of what I saw seemed pretty good.  It seems a few people had a difficult time pinpointing.  This may be an operator issue more than a flaw.  I am using a $1500 detector that I recently purchased and was having difficulty pinpointing.  I have gotten quite a bit better lately, to  prove a point.

Here is the link to the site:  http://metaldetectorreviews.net/detectors/17-1-whitesprizm3.html

They say that the coinmaster is a Prizm 3 and the Prizem 3 gets a lot of bad reviews on google. What do you members of Tnet have to say is it bad reviews by some one that don't know how to use detectors or are they deserved ?

I just went to a site called metal detector reviews, and most of what I saw seemed pretty good.  It seems a few people had a difficult time pinpointing.  This may be an operator issue more than a flaw.  I am using a $1500 detector that I recently purchased and was having difficulty pinpointing.  I have gotten quite a bit better lately, to  prove a point.

Here is the link to the site:  http://metaldetectorreviews.net/detectors/17-1-whitesprizm3.html

I've always found that I can pinpoint a whole lot better just leaving the detector in the discriminate mode and NOT going to the pinpoint all-metal mode.  That all-metal mode broadens the target size and makes it more difficult to find the center point.

I just bought one yesterday from White's, it should be here in a week or more. If a Fl. shipment to NY takes 8 days with UPS, then this may take 16. Sad

I picked one up the other day. I'll tell you....for the money, it's a sweet little machine! Very lightweight, well balanced. I haven't really had time to take it out yet.

I will tell you this...I was bench testing it and it got my wedding band at 8 inches. I think it's a winner...

I'm taking it out tomorrow to try it out.

Hope to see more reviews of this machine.  From what I've seen so far it looks like White's may have another winner at that price point.
