Another nice one Chris, would need to see Reverse side to attribute the variety, could be very common one or rare, if rare, even in ground found condition would be worth a bit. Also, on the edge shot, if you can see the Oak Leaf, are stems and leaf tip pointing Up?

I'd be happy with the iron. Good Luck Tuesday. I think IP is jealous. Randy PS-I'm sure glad you spell you name Chris.

That is a Beautiful coin, Zeus! The detector gods were smiling on you condition-wise today. The gods cursed me today--I dug my second dateless Coronet of the year. I guess turnabout is fair play though--usually the coppers up there are toast and mine are pretty decent. Congratulations on the banner. You may already know this, but the pewter rooster is part of an early whistle similar to this one: Best Wishes, Buck

Chris, Pure... AWESOMENESS. I'm dumbfounded. That is beyond cool. Beautiful, beautiful condition for a dug coin. And 1794, no less!! That is one sweet site. Although strictly speaking, I may have you guys beat on a find as far as age (see upcoming post) , I have never found any coins that could touch that. Yet. Keep at the digging, guys. Your colonial and post-colonial museum is well underway. -Chris

When I saw this up in the banner, I just knew it was going to be one of you guys!
There are literally dozens of varieties of the 1794 LC. I hope Don is able to get an ID for you on yours!
That is a beauty regardless of what the reverse looks like.
Congratulations on making the banner!

That is really nice. I dug one a couple years ago with good detail on the front and back and the one hundred for a dollar is clear but the date was evidently a weak stamp and you can't see the date at all.

That is really nice. I dug one a couple years ago with good detail on the front and back and the one hundred for a dollar is clear but the date was evidently a weak stamp and you can't see the date at all.
It looks like mine was stamped heavier on the bottom of the coin right where the date is, The word Liberty on the top is not a high relief. The crenelations around the coin is also evident at the bottom and side but not at the top. I would like to see your coin. Chris

This brings up an interesting topic.........do we think this coin sat face down for 200+ years and the fertilizer (or standing water) killed the reverse and left the obverse in good shape?? 200+ years of frost heaves and field plowing didn't flip this coin at some point?? I have many Large Cents, Indian Heads and Wheats that have the same problem, one side good, one side bad........ and many times this happens in a place that hasn't seen any fertilizer........very interesting.......thoughts anyone? HH all!! Greg
