dug today at a house, Only thing I can think it looks like is a part of of a gun??

I agree....."no gun"....."definately a window casement lock". Its even the kind thats lockable, nice.

what metal is it? i thought it to be a window lock. didn't even see the key lock.
looks odd to be a window lock. the locking mechanism is more light furniture type. but..... ?
the hoosier cabinet idea is good. just odd enough to be from a built in cabinet from an old house.

Yup! Icebox latch. When I was a kid I rode with the local iceman and helped deliver ice. It was a horse drawn wagon in Baltimore in the late 50's. I remember a lot of those old icebox latches. Most were brass but some were iron and some were plated. Whoa, I need a grog...  |
