Got out to a man made lake drained to winter pool.  Hunted 2 hrs yesterday and 2 hrs today.  Would this uniface knife be paleo or not?  The snapped piece bottom center was found close by.  I feel like a squirrel stocking up on the study pieces for winter.

Feel free to post a pic of a paleo or non-paleo uniface knife to compare the flaking.

VERY pretty item, Rich  headbang headbang headbang

In general, assuming everything hasn't become muddled by ploughing or deflation, the points date the tools. Looks, from here, like Terminal Archaic (Broadpoint era) through early Woodland (Meadowood).

Unfortunately, square knives seem to have been made, at least off-&-on, all down through time, with the most beautifully made of them dating from the Archaic and Woodland eras.

Upper Mercer (Coshocton) chert (tool) ?

It could be a paleo uniface flake tool, I've got some paleo examples with similar flaking. I'll post a couple later after I take some pics.

Nice piece Rich. Gotta love that winter pool. Be watching for the verdict on Paleo. Nice tool.

Most people are born as hunters in one way or another. Does it not make sense that we gather as well. Enjoy the hunt and gather wisely.

Thanks for commenting.  The comments on the Texas thread by Uniface and Neanderthal directly relate to this post.  Maybe a paleo point will be found someday, until then it's just wishful thinking.
