I found this 1785 Spanish coin in a "coastal" NC town yesterday.  It was on land, maybe 2 miles inland from shore, on a piece of property on a river bank.  This is one of the best condition coins I've seen, and my oldest find to date.

I know you guys along the coast find these off and on but after many years I've never turned one up.

This is the first one I've found, but you're right.  Spanish coins are found often around the east coast.  All the ones I've seen either come from a shipwreck or are a much later date.  This is the oldest one I've seen come from the "ground" around here.

    Awesome find XXX!

A friend of mine saw two gold doubloons (sp?) his friend found while digging a septic tank for a house in Murrells Inlet (the point).  I think I would have dug the hole much larger than it should have been.lol
It's out there, you just have to look.

    Congrats on the nice find.

PS. I stopped by the shop you are going to open and I am still dying to see what you are going to have

Whereabouts at Murrells Inlet? Went to Pawleys Island a lot as a kid and then my parents owned a beachfront house at Garden City Beach for  a long time. Do you know if the finder was ever able to date the coins? I'll bet that ended up being one big hole!
