I know things are slow, the economy is bad...etc....

But my employer just told our biggest customer...our bread and butter, that he would not reduce his rates by 10% and buy any new equipment to keep our position with them.

We have a competetor in the same place we are and they have already reduced their rates twice and have newer equipment which is more efficient.

At one time, our company virtually had all the work where we were. Now we have none.

So let me see.....it's better to NOT have any money at all comming in than to reduce your rates some to keep a cash flow going??? icon_scratch

If...and that's a BIG IF...my employer could see that our line of business is fairly recession proof,(we do environmental work for a steel mill), he'd take a small concession to maintain our place in the mill.

But...guess he got his and he's not worried about us.

What sucks worst.....even though I am officially out of work...I am still on a 24 hour emergency call-out list. I can be called at 2am to go clean up a spill at a furnace and then go right back to being unemployed. Can't refuse work while you're unemployed...no matter how rediculous it is. And God forbid I don't answer that ringing phone in the middle of the night.

With businessmen like him...no wonder the economy is so messed up.

aw Al...hate to hear that. My hubby works for a steel mill here in Tx also. They've cut their hours to 3 days a week, but thank God he hasnt lost his job.

So is your employer still working?

Just wondering what his reasons were for doing what he did...Could be the economy and he's thinking he cant afford to drop it down to 10% not to mention having to buy new equipment.

Sorry about your job,...maybe that phone call you get will be the one telling you to come back to work...i'll be thinking about cha.

I hope you went and filed for umemployement...wonder if thats why they have you "offically on call?" to keep from having to pay unemployment? Just wondering, i dont know how that stuff works, but i sure would check into it.

Sry to hear the news, Al.

...never criticize a boss...
when time comes that you might disagree with him, hang out your own shingle and compete with him.

Good luck, Al.

It makes more sense to get a job with your former employers competitor.
