I posted this in the token section yesterday, then decided to give it to a larger audience...Im aware of the '60's Shell/Amoco oil pres. tokens but this appears to be different from those that I have found on the net,it's copper and the size of a quarter the bust is more of a profile than a 3/4 bust like the oil co. ones that Ive seen...its not aluminum and doesnt say shell so maybe its an Amoco...any help?Smiley

I dont believe this is the Shell series. I researched these tokens a while back. The Shell series is Aluminum. There are also two different brass series from the 50's and 60's and another from the 70's. I believe this is the older "date above the head" series.. I tried to date these by finding the last president.

your token looks like it's from one of the presidential commemorative or so-called "presidential data" series issued around 40-50 years ago.  Some were given away at gas stations, others at banks, and I believe some were also used as prizes in boxes of breakfast cereal.  Later, they were also sold in sets or albums in gift and hobby shops.

That's right. It's not a shell series. I have a Madison that I found in 1970 that was worn slick. It was probably 20yrs old then. Tony

Yes, the token in this post has the "date above head" and is older than the 60's LBJ pictured. I cant find an FDR, LBJ, or JFK.

Im glad you posted because its a type I didnt know about. icon_thumright There are at least 7 different presidential series. This is the only one that not positively IDEd. We can date it if we find the oldest pres.
