I thought the cut copper was peculiar, I had never seen one anywhere.. Took me a while to id it but became pretty apparent with the other coins from the era.. Thanks for the kind replies, more to come soon, 100s of acres of fields just opened up at all our sites it seems! HH

Those are some Top Notch finds.  The cut spanish reales are in beautiful condition.  I've found some that I couldn't hardly ID the time frame on, much less see a date.

1/4 of a halfpenny interests me.  No cutting of copper coinage occurred in the UK at this time, but seems to have been common in the US.
1/2 of a halfpenny is a farthing - farthing being the lowest demonination of coinage at the time.  1/4 of a halfpenny is nothing.  So proving the the Colonials had differing values on coinage.  ie. a value under our lowest value coinage of that period.  Although in the later Victorian period we did produce some half-farthings which were for British Colonial use.
So your coin, in British terms is effectively a Half-Farthing!

Yeah cru, that thing is nuts heh? When I found it, me and my buddy were like 'wait a second, that's an 1/8th of a cent!!' that was the first colonial copper we found on that site.. Since we've gotten a 1734 & a 175? KGII.. Also three of those cut silvers in my pics and two whole 1/2 reales (1777,1780).. The colonial stuff always has interested me.. Jeff

You have some great colonial sites going there, the cut silvers are beautiful. And i've never seen a cut copper found around where I live, I wonder what they would have purchased with them?. I hope the weather holds out for you so you can keep swinging the coil!.
