Posted Nov 23, 2009, 03:09:27 pm

I got out on Sunday for about four hours for some woods hunting.  It seems I've been having better success turf hunting lately versus woods, but I figured with such a short window of time, I might as well get to the wilderness now.  I trekked all over the place, and finally settled on a little area where I had found some old stuff before.  I picked up some junk/relics and was digging everything.  I got a perfect dime signal in an area where, previously, my newest coin was a 1912.  I dug an unneccesarily-large plug in my excitement and scanned around, and saw the not-so-shiny reeded edge of a dime.  I imagined what it was going to be.  A Barber?  SEATED?  I gently picked it up and immediately saw...full bands on one side and a bust of Liberty on the other.  A 1937 merc, and a not-so-pretty one at that (the back looks like a lot of those IH's you guys have been finding lately).  In the same hole was a 1940 wheatie.  I was really happy to have found this coin nonetheless, just kind of took me by surprise.

One of those iffy deep signals ended up being a 1906 V nickel.  On my way out toward my car I scored a '45 wheat in the turf.  Nothing spectacular but it sure was a beautiful day out and I don't anticipate too many more, if any, days like that again this year.

Take care guys...

Joe
