Yesterday I got a little time at my recently discovered chinese camp.Nothing earth shattering, and didnt carry out all of the picks and shovels or shards of brown pottery and melted lead(I seldom do)Found the normal Coins, one complete lock, other nick knacks(the square plate is copper? icon_scratch)One powder can stopper that is the push in type(not threaded)which is early(pre-1860)The highlight of the hunt was the powder flask top complete with spout...I have never dug one with spout. The flask hasnt showed yet but if past holds true I probably wont, dont ask me why but I never seem to find the two in proximity?I will be looking though!!

Very cool! That's the kind of site where all the little stuff means a lot too.  I hope when you get back there you'll be able to cart out all the bigger stuff to get a real exhibit up?  icon_thumleft

Thanks Johnny, yes it does all tell a story....one I love to read!I used to pack everything home but after a couple hundred picks, shovels, axe heads  and such filled the yard I cut back.I check the picks and other tools for makers marks,or if the are of a unique design I will bring them out.I dont leave the site trashed up though it all gets buried again. A couple of things were odd about this site,I found only one opium tin (the crumpled up tin in the picture is the protective cover to an opium lamp though)these camps are usually loaded with those. Also,I found an array of "ladies",garter buckles?Ladies were not common in these camps either dontknow

Nice looking 1850's indicators!

Yes every site does tell a story.  And the story I'm reading is that there are some T&W buckles strewn about, probably on the outskirts of this area.  From the array of garter buckles you found, the guys probably couldn't get their pants off quick enough. laughing7

You're right the ladies just weren't in these locations you are hunting unless of course they had their own agenda! Grin   Now get back out there and find those T&W's and the coin spills!! headbang

Hey Kuger, nice finds.....any coins that you couldn't i.d.?
Would the guys have some kind of use for them?   Holding up something, keeping it out of the way when working?
Haven't got the faintest what went on in those camps.  Closest I've been is a couple of the gold camps in Eastern Oregon....
and that's a bunch of years ago.
Keep it up!!!!  Hope you find the tobacco can(s) full of what they hid.......then we can all celebrate.  thumbsup
BTW, when you hopping over the big pond, and doing some detecting here?   One guy is here, thanks to the U.S.Air Force.....
we didn't get out this last weekend, but we will in the next couple of weekends.   (First talked to him, via this site.....I was here,
and he was in Iraq.....glad to see him get here, safe and sound.)
Tell me when you are coming!!!!!!!

Can't find it if you're watching tv at home, your machine isn't on, and the head of your detector is pointed up!!

Cool digs.  Would this be a railroad camp?

Great photos and great finds.  The sites you dig are from a very cool--and brief--time in American history.  I think that's why I'm so fascinated with what you come up with.

Keep up the good work,
