Ancient city of Dur-Kurigalzu (modern Aqar Quf) Baghadad Iraq

Hey everyone I got to go to the ancient city of Dur-Kurigalzu in Iraq thought i would share some pic and Little history of it.  Just west of modern Baghdad, the ancient city of Dur-Kurizalzu was founded in the 14th century B.C. by the Kassite King Kurigalzu I (1400-1375 B.C.).  The true origins of the Kassite people are unknown, but they are believed to have entered Mesopotamia from modern-day Iran during what is considered the Mesopotamian "dark ages," when the country was vulnerable to foreign invaders.  Dur-Kurigalzu was the Kassite capital, located at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, with temples dedicated to Babylonian gods and art they may have been influenced by the 18th Egyptian Dynasty.The patrons of the city successfully participated in international trade relations and the Kassite Dynasty lasted four centuries longer than any other dynasty in the history Mesopotamia. During the time of its occupation, the walled city encompassed an area of about 556 acres.  Dur-Kurigalzu consisted of a ziggurat, a temple complex, public and private buildings and royal residences.  After the fall of the Kassite Dynasty in The 12th century B.C., the city was continuously occupied until at least the late 14th century A.D. the site was used as a cemetery and eventually completely abandoned.  Little written material exists about the site and only a small portion of the city has been excavated......now after the war took off in 2003 the the modern buildings were looted of furniture, lighting, and contents, including the museum, collections, i have one pic of empty show cases that are in the museum..  in some of the pics you can see the new bricks to show what they think the place looked like back in the day.

Yup i carry the Colt's M4 with a 5.56 search coil and it has a ACOG pin pointer
