Would like to keep this, as it is rare and will most surely increase in value, but medical bills and no job is forcing me to sell a lot of stuff...
I am trying to avoid ePay.. I have only found one example of this date/type of "potty" coin, sold on Heritage auctions in 2007 for $345 and it (imho) was not nearly as nice as mine... I contacted them and they would love to auction it, but require $5k worth of coins for them to list (but of course would like to buy outright all of my coins at wholesale- No thanks). Also highly likely to be a Confederate coin as it was minted in New Orleans.
I am taking offers, but I know it's ballpark value and wont give it away...

Of course someone "messed" with it, do a search on "potty dollars" and you will learn about them... I thought it was just a screwed up coin until I was educated by the folks here...

the 1861 O half dollar * generally are thought of as "confederate coins" even though they bare the US govt mint markings -- the us govt minted 330,000 of them in jan of 1861 -- on the last day of jan 1861 --the state of louisana miltary forces took over the mint * then later the confederate govt --- using the us govt dies and the silver "in stock" the two "confederate" groups struck 2,202,633 coins --or roughly about 7 times the amount of the coins made by the US Govt in jan of 1861 -- because of this fact --1861 "o" halfs are normally thought of as confederate money ---this coin has been altered --into a woman on a chamber pot --aka "potty dollars" ---when made on a "trade dollar"

general butler --the commander of union forces in mew orleans was so hated by the women of new orleans for the order he gave regarding the women of the city that many of the women of the city painted his likeness on the bottom of their chamber pots --their nickname for him was "the beast"

as a new orleans made civil war era coin --the potty figure might be linked to the womens hatred of butler --or as a bit of civil war era dirty "trench art" carved coin art -- a very interesting bit of history in my veiw .

Damn Ivan, you sure make me want to give you that coin... I remember your birthdate is 1961, and you sure know a lot about it's origin and history... Too bad I am in such dire straits for money, or I would... I will say this.. If I dont get any big offers for it, or if I place it on ebay and it doesnt hit the reserve I place on it (around what the other one went for at auction), I will surely consider it. If I dont keep it, then the next best place in my mind (and heart) would be to someone that will treasure it.. As I said in my original post of it, I have had it since I was a young lad. Good thing I never looked it over that well years ago, or I would have probably never held onto it (or my other silver coins)..

well being born  in 1961 and raised till 13 in new orleans (well actually born in the public health hospital in new orleans and raised in chalmette ) -- and as far back as I can remember being interested with the subject of history (wars and warfarre esp)-- I know of new orleans role in the civil war ( with the mint and hatred of bulter)--my mom also worked as a waitress  at rocky and carlos restaurant-- a short drive from the war of 1812 battlefeild * which always interested me as a kid. -- pity I found out as a adult -- what a sob jackson later as president was to his indain "allies" from the seminole wars --as a kid I thought him to be quite a hero .

since you need the cash * I hope the info I put up will help you in selling it for a decent price --good luck
