Unifaced scrapers ??

   Wishful thinking maybe , but they do look man made to me. What do you folks think ? They were all found on our property , close to the Shenandoah river , a few miles north of the Thunderbird Archeological District.

Looks like debitage to me but, there is likely something to be found there if you are finding that stuff.

Just flakes, but you may find some artifacts there with those flakes present......

My opinion, since you asked.

Scrapers ?  Probably not.  Edges suitable for use as scrapers are thicker and at anywhere around 45 to 75 degree angles to the uniface side.

       Thanks for all the good info. We could fill a bucket with all of the flakes we find here , most the size of a quarter. I'll keep looking down.

With use wear on the edges, a couple of possible graver spurs, and a thinning strike I'd call them flake tools, not just waste flakes. Quartzite is tough to read unless you pick up alot of it and familiarise yourself with the characteristics of a worked piece.

What's the deal with the Thunderbird site museum? Is it no longer available to the public? any ideas Viking?

    Thanks for the info thirty7. I think the Thunderbird Museum and Archeological Park is closed , I'm not sure. It seems to be a touchy subject with local land owners. Even people i know well hesitate to talk about the site.
