Young Harris is pretty much north of the gold belt in Ga. but it is in good gemstone hunting area.

Ga. gold belt runs in a diagonal line from Al. state line and Interstate 20 to Rabun Co at the N.C. state line and only 1 1/2 miles wide at the widest part and most of the alluvial occurances are S.E. and down stream although there are isolated pockets outside of the belt.

Go spend the day in Dahlonega have luch and pan some gold at the Crisson Mine or any other local establishment, great scenery and plenty od knowledge to get a newb started.

Also look for the gold maps at Ga dept of nat resources. 3rd floor Atlanta

from the research i have done there is gold in some quantity everywhere. it takes prospecting to find out if its enough to make the effort worth while. Gold is over 1000 dolors an ounce at this point Grin Grin Grin

DO NOT SEEK THE TREASURE!( :laughing7:quote from O'brother where art thou)    you will be bitten!the fever will grow!only one way to quench the thirst.         icon_pirat   but do it for love of it -and do it with family and friends.it's not about the money-you will be disappointed.you will get richer doing it for the experience.and if your heart is right you will be luckier. icon_sunny
