I think this is a juvenile red tail hawk. I don't know why he chose a metal fence post to cling on to, when there were some wooden ones nearby.

Great pictures the hawks do choose some strange areas to hang to last week we saw one on an itty bitty wire instead of the big fat cable! The little squirrel is very clear too and sooo cute!

Staring contest is funny! Such super sharp pictures, I like 'em! Your baby is a Rough-leg, not a Redtail. See the feathers completly cover the legs? And the belly band is solid, another field mark for a Rough-leg.  ng

Hey Dan, Sorry for the delay in answering your question. These were taken with my Canon 400mm 5.6L lens. Sweet lens but WAY out of my price range.  Proof that you get what you pay for.
