D-Dub and I had two places in mind to hunt today, but last night I called him and told him I see a Seated coin waiting for one of us at Site B.  On our way there, I told him I was going to find a silver coin before 9am and sure enough, my first coin of the hunt was the 1897 Barber dime with full Liberty found right around 8am.  Sorry for the bad pics, but there's poor lighting in my apt.

Some time went by, and I dug a few IH's...1873 (Semi-Key), 1900, 1905 & 1907.

Then I had a wheatie signal that was buried on my depth meter about 10 feet away where there has been a seated dime found a few weeks earlier.  I dug a plug, and only about 5" down I saw something greyish.  I knew it was going to be some very dark silver, but wasn't expecting this.  It's an 1857 Seated Dime very worn, but my oldest silver to date.

About an hour or so later, I had an IH/Memorial penny hit with the depth gauge buried once again.  I just dug a big rusty nail a few inches away, so my hopes weren't too high.   As soon as I cut the plug and moved some dirt around, I saw a small silver disk in the dirt.  I called Dan over telling him I think I have a half dime!  Well, after gentle dabbing, it came out to be a 1900 Silver Canadian 5 Cent piece.

A few minutes later Dan dug his silver coin which would've completed my Grand Slam..Thanks Dan (twice now).  laughing7  At this point I started speed hunting to try and find a Merc and Roosie.  Well we moved to a different area and right off the bat, I dug the 1940-D Merc.  Swinged a bit wilder to cover more ground to find the Roosie to no avail.  Maybe next time.

My oldest silver coin.  My first silver canadian 5 cent piece, and my oldest Canadian silver.  Oh, and my most valuable IH so far.

Enjoy and HH!

Careful Mike, I have you by 84 years, but I think both your seated (half and dime) are much nicer than my smooth 2 Real.

L4S -- great finds!  Leave some there for me!  My Etrac arrives tomorrow!

Hey Jon,

What an awesome day you had out there!  I feel honored to have held those coins (especially the seated) in my hand.  The weather looks favorable this weekend, cold but sunny.  I hope it isn't too windy.  I know where you'll be for sure!  Go for another seated.

I've been thinking about this place and the hard hunting that comes with it. After you pulled that seated(which wasn't that deep) and rechecked the hole, you said that it was nulling out. I wonder if turning down the sensitivity will make it so the detector doesn't pick up that deep iron and makes the good targets come in more clear? Again, great job out there, Jon.

@Tim, I'm getting there. Have a few hunts and contest prizes to post. Shortly...
