Different coils on my QDII

I know that BH makes a 4", 8", and a 10" standard coil. My question is, can I use, say a 15" WOT coil and make it fit on my QDII? Or would it be a waste of time and cost more in the end to modify it to fit?

Coils are made for certain frequencies. I doubt seriously it would work.

Coils are tuned for each detector. If you found another detector that uses the same coil as yours and they had a WOT for it, it would work, the frequency has to be the same. Minelab Sovereign and The Minelab Excal can use the same coils, but coils for the other Minelab detectors will not work on the Excal and Sovereign....

Would the 11" DD coil give much more depth over the 10" coil? What would the advantages be?  I have never used an DD coil and know nothing about them.  I have been tempted myself on this coil but didn't know if it was worth it since I already have the 10" coil.

If you are using the stock coils they are mono coils (concentric) , vs a DD coil.



The benefit of using a Mono coil is that it goes deeper than a DD coil of an equal size.  However, Mono coils can be somewhat noisier in heavily mineralized ground.
A Mono coil is more sensitive to tiny gold and is easier to pinpoint with.




The benefit of using a DD coil is that if it is quieter and handles ground mineralization better.  The penetration profile of a DD coil is such that you do not need to overlap your swings as much. But it does not go as deep as a Mono Coil of equal size.

On say a 10" mono coil at 10 inches you search pattern may only be 2 inches wide, while on a 15 inch coil at 10 inches your search pattern is 15 inches wide.....

They say it is easier to pinpoint with a concentric coil, although personally I have no problem what so ever pinpointing with any of my DD coils. I have 3 of the 15 inch WOT coils, (one hardwired on my waterproofed Sovereign GT for use in the surf, one for my non waterproofed Sovereign GT, and one hard wired on to one of my 2 Excals and and I have one of the 15" x 18" SEF Butterfly coils that I use on my non waterproofed Sovereign GT, and I can pinpoint right on with all of them.... I personally much perfer the DD coils.

You would not get much more depth if any with the 11 inch DD Vs the 10 inch concentric, but you would get a lot more coverage since at 8-10 inches your search pattern is only about 2-3 inches wide....

Thanks for the info!  That is the first time I have heard the difference between the two types of coils.  Between the old White's that I used to have and the two BH machines that I now have, I have only used "regular" coils.  I'm going to be looking hard at that Fisher coil now. 

Sand-duner - I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to hijack your thread.

I fired off an email to First Texas to find out for sure if the coil will fit and if the machines will need any factory adjustments etc. Will let everyone know the answer.

Just got an email back from Bounty Hunter and this is a direct quote.

"Unfortunately none of our 11” coils are compatible with our regular Bounty Hunter detectors. The largest coil we offer is the 10” coil."

I was hoping it was compatible.

Just got a second email from BH this morning.  MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!

"I have to apologize. I don’t know why but for some reason I had the 11” coils for our Teknetics models in mind when I answered your email.
 
The F4 coil is indeed compatible with the Bounty Hunter models.
 
Again, I apologize for my mistake."

Okay, I now know what my next equipment purchase will be!
