Gentlemen....Some of the things that I have proved to myself may not make sense to others. I have hung a 1/2 inch foil disk in an air tight jar. With the disk aliened in the North-South direction the disk will turn toward an object placed east or west of it. It will not move if the object is placed any other direction. The disk will turn a different amounts of degrees for different objects. If you get your hands to close to the jar the disk will go crazy.
If you place a silver coin on the floor and use one l-rod different things will happen. If you walk a square starting in a north-south direction on the west side of the coin, with the coin in the center, the rod will point at the coin when you are west of it. Keep walking and the rod will open. Turn left and it will again close when you are south of the coin. This next part I know the rods may react different for some. Start your square on the east side of the coin. For me the rods will just wander a little when I am at the cardinal directions.
Now with the rod pointed forward I walk a circle around the coin. The rod will do nothing. If I go back to my square pattern and when the rod closes, I again start walking only this time I turn the pattern into a circle. My rod will stay locked on the coin as long as I keep waking a circle.
More later...Art

Most of the people I know will use a sweeping motion with one rod. They slowly move the rod from right to left and keep the movment to 45 degrees. When they feel the rod dragging they stop and let the rod lock on the object. I don't get a strong enough lock when I use this method. I will practice it sometimes but the results are poor for me.
fernando....The square or box pattern is the only method I use. I seldom need to walk more than one leg of the square. If there is brush, steep up's or downs or anything in my way I know where to find the other signals. My son uses two rods that cross when he comes to a signal but when he is with in 25 feet of the object both rods will point to the object. It doesn't happen that way for me. I know how to make both rods point at the object. I don't use this as it adds time to my search....Art

As most of you know I am a two rod Dowser. I have tried a lot of methods and two rods just works better for me. I usually walk a square pattern but it makes little difference as when the rods cross I have to move my feet a little to line the rods to the signal. I only get a signal with two rods when I am either North, South, East or West of the object.
When I am sure that I have lined the rods to the object I mark the spot and move on. When I have marked a few more spots I return to where I started. I get my weight checking device ( non electronic ) and return to the first marker. Now this device will not allow the rods to cross on weaker signals. I use this device because my area is loaded with Micro-Gold and I was spending to much time digging it. Since I search for small amounts of gold I set it with a 1/8 oz nugget. Some of these micro-gold deposits have a signal that is equal to 20 pounds of gold so I can not eliminate all of them.
I then go to each spot I have marked and decide which signals I want to follow...Art

Now that I know which signals I am going to follow I need to know which direction. Go to your marker and make sure that both feet are on the signal line. If one foot is not on the line the rods will not cross. Give this little test a try. With the rods crossed raise either foot and the rods will open. Now take a small step off the line with either foot making sure that you don't raise the heel of the foot on the line. The rods will open. Seems to me it's just like turning a light switch off.
Now that you are standing on the signal line drop one rod to your side. The other rod will either stay where it is or turn 180 degrees. This works no matter which rod you drop to your side and the other rod will always point to the object. This will not work with a single rod as you have to have two rods in your hands..Art

We are getting closer to the gold now. We have to remember that we will be crossing the signals from other objects. I think at this point I may be Mental Dowsing as I am focused on the signal and these other signals are not found. The way I practice this is to stake a rope, string or what ever in a North-South or East-West direction. I place an object at one end. You can walk a S and the rods will cross each time you cross the line. Some thing to remember is that the rod that is farthest from the signal line will always point to the line. When following a signal line if you move your hands closer together until the rods form a vee with the tips 3 inches apart you can walk a lot straighter line to the object. This takes a lot of practice......Art

Now I am watching where I am going and looking at the rods and staying on my line. When the rods want to stay closed you are close to the object. Then you inch along until the rods lock. I then mark the spot where the inside of my left heels is. I use 16 D nails with some surveyors tape on the top as markers. I then turn 90 degrees and place the inside of the left heel next to the marker. Keeping both feet as close together as possible I move backward and forward until the rods are locked and remark my heel. I turn 90 degrees two more times and repeat the remarking and that is where the object is. ...Art

I have a silver dollar buried in my back yard. It is two feet deep. I have two markers there . One above the coin and one two feet from it. I again stand with my left heel by the marker and inch my way forward. The rods will open. As I move forward they will start to close. When they close to a vee with the tips about one inch apart I stop and check the second marker. It lines up with my left heel.
I now know that when I walk away from a buried object and my rods close to a vee how deep it is buried. But ( and there is always one ) How far you let the rods close to be accurate can only be determined by you. When you move away from your object marker and the rods open and close again the object is less than one foot deep.
When I dig objects that are less than a foot deep I dig into a pan. When the pan is full I check it with my rods. If I get a signal from the pan I check the hole and see if I got it all. If there is still a signal from the hole I will hang my heels over the hole and try to determine witch part of the hole it is in. I keep digging and checking until the signal stops. I have recovered the biggest gold in the first pan and I have found it in the last pan....Art

Hey Hotrod....I was finding Placer Gold with L-Rods for 3 or 4 years before I knew it had anything to do with Dowsing. I had one question that I needed an answer to. There was this computer sitting in the back room so I decided to learn to use it. I searched a lot of sites without getting any help. When I posted a question all I got was a bunch B /S.
I learned to read between the lines and how to follow the bread crumbs. Through trail and error I have come a long way. I don't do as much testing as I used to and that makes my wife happy as she was the one that hide targets for me.
I stopped posting here 3 or 4 times but this time I will not be chased off. I have always given information to others and if one person learns from my posts I will be happy. In my opinion there is no right or wrong way to Dowse. I hope to see others post how it works for them....Art

For a dowser I think it is important to be accurate with the rods. What the rods are made of and what kind of handles and how long they are is important. The most important thing to me is body position. You need to find a repeatable body position so that when you are on the target and the rods are crossed you can mark it.
When I noticed that I was digging some big holes to get a little gold I decided to work on the problem. The first thing I did was place a silver dollar on the floor. I put the heel of my boot on it and held my rods out and they only closed part way. I moved my arms back and forth and the rods opened and closed. I moved my hands in and out and they opened and closed.
So...I found a position that I could repeat every time. The position I chose was my arms at shoulder height and out as far as I could push them with my hands 1 inch wider than the rod length. I decided that I would use the inside front 1/2 inch of my left heel as my marking spot as I could reach it without hurting my back to much. I then started using a dime as my target.
The next step was to trim my rods so they were crossed and locked when my left heel was next to the target and I was in my repeatable postion. I cut a 1/4 inch at a time off the rods until I was close then used a file. My rods are almost 2 !/4 inches shorter now. If you want to check this out use some rods made from metal coat hangers. If you change your mind about where to mark the signal on your foot or are not happy with your arm position your good rods are still safe
I have put most everything I know about Dowsing on this forum. Sure would like to hear how it works for others....Art

Do you want both rods to point at the target ? I don't need them to do this but it is somethng that you should know. This tip came from gldhntr. With your rods closed on a signal you back up until the rods are almost open. Stop and the rods will slowly swing until both are pointed at the target. You may need to move your feet a little to get them to lock on it. Start walking a circle and they will stay locked on the target...Art

I seldom use one rod but I practice with one sometimes. I will try you system as I like to try new things. When searching I think about trees, bushes, rocks or anything else of interest. I pay no attention to the rods as they will tell me when there is a signal.
Since I know how to find these natural signal lines and use them I don't know if the subconscious mind is in control or not. I know that these signals flow through the body and if you raise a foot off the ground the rods will open. I know if I put the rods in a solid holder they will still close. With the holder it is impossible to close the rods manually
When working with man made signals you can raise up a foot and the rods will stay closed. Is another part of the brain controlling this signal ? Is this just the earth making a natural connection with your body ? I don't think about these things except when on the computer.....Art

I don't know a lot about Dowsing. I just know how it works for me. I look for Treasure. If I need to find a Utility Line I can locate them. I do a few parlor tricks and check peoples Auras. Other people do things with Dowsing Rods that I would never try.
My Step Son measured the Millivolts flowing between my hands. He said it was between 90 and 100 millivolts and I had a + and a - hand. I am not going to buy a expensive volt meter to study this more. I do have a cheap Radio Shack Digital Volt Meter that will read the polarity of my hands.
I find the following experiment will work for me and most of the people I have tried it on. Some of them could transfer the charge to a piece of paper ??...Art
A metallic pendulum attached by a wire will take on the charge of the hand it is being held by. A pendulum held by a nonconductive string will take on the charge of the last hand which held the pendulum. The pendulum when rotating above an object of a similar charge will continue to rotate and eventually swing back and forth perpendicular to the object. This pendulum when rotating above an object of the opposite charge will start to swing back and forth parallel to the object being dowsed. Caution here when dowsing an object you have touched the object will usually take on the charge of the last hand that touched it. This can be demonstrated by dowsing over an object such as a table knife depending on which hand touched the knife last an opposite reaction of the dowsing device will be seen.

My Dad told me that their was always another way to skin a cat. I didn't know what he was talking about but I do now. I know some mental dowsers who are very good. I have my reasons for not dowsing that way. The important thing is---- can you find what you are seeking. It makes no difference if someone disagrees with my methods as it is no big deal...Art

I have been posting about finding Treasure. Lets expand the limits a little. Do you think that fruits and vegies produce a signal that your rods will detect ? Put a potato and a onion on the floor in a east-west directions about two feet apart. Just for fun throw a dollar bill in the mix. Now remembering that if you are using one rod you have to be on the right side of the objects, walk west past the objects at least 3 foot from them. Did the rods open and close 3 times ?
Place a dollar bill in each hand with the rods and do it again. Did the rods only close once ? Have someone hide these objects in the yard and see if you can find them....Art
P.S. Keep your eyes open for three or four of those Plastic Easter Egg's...They work great for blind testing.

I find Placer Gold and coins with my Dowsing rods. They are not a pick up and start finding stuff tool. It takes a lot of practice. We have a thread called Want to try Dowsing http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,19537.0.html. Give Dowsing a try as it will cost you nothing ( except for two metal coat hangers ). ......Art

A lot of people have a test garden with buried targets. I did not do that. I did kill the lawn in a north-south directions. This area is 1 foot by 15 feet. I dug one hole 2 foot deep ( hit hard pan ) and since I don't use it much I clear it about every 2 months so the dirt doesn't get hard.
There is three signals that cross this area so I marked them with plastic tent stakes. Before I do any testing I always check to see if there are other signals. If my back neigbors car is park in the right place I get a signal from it.
My favorite rods are made of 3/16 Brass. I have a set of rods made from Brazing Rod with gold attached to them and another set with Silver. I have a set of rods with film canisters mounted close to the handles. I have two sets of adjustabe rods, both brass and one has copper swing handles. In the garage I have many rods made from different materials, diameters etc. I hang onto these rods as I never know when I may have an idea and want to use them. ..Art

Now to do some experiments.I use a dime, quarter, 1/2 dollar and $1 silver coins. The older the better. You can lay them on a board or what ever is handy so you don't lose them. Remembering that we are going to be using the cardinal directions as our guide, line the coins up about 2 or more feet apart. Take your rods and and walk the same direction as the coins. How far away from the coins is your decision as the dime can be found up to 70 some paces from it. Make a few quick passes by the coins trying to keep your mind from thinking about the rods. Now make 10 passes stopping each time the rods cross and making adjustments until the rods are locked. Record the results after each pass. We then make 10 more passes telling the rods to find the silver. Make some more passes keeping the mind as clear as possible. ...Art

For the next test you will need a helper. Another dowser or wife, just someone who has an hour to spend helping you. You will also need something to cover 6 places where the coin could be hid. I use halfs of Plastic Easter Eggs.
Use one coin and have the person change the location after each pass. Do 10 passes with a clear mind and 10 passes telling the rods to find the coin. Each time the rods cross your shoulders will be inline with the coin. If you have time you could start tracking the signal. Remember to keep records of each pass.
At this point you need not worry about information leaks.....Art

This is my version of a Double Blind test. I use the same 6 Easter eggs and a coin. I give my wife the coin and she goes out the back door and I stay inside while she places the coin under one of the eggs. She then goes around the house and knocks on the front door. I go out, not having any contact with her. I start Dowsing thinking of anything else except for dowsing. Sometimes it is what I'm going to do tomorrow or a movie I saw the night before. I locate the coin, go in the house and give it to the wife and start over again. I make 10 to 15 passes and then take a break. My results are all ways the same. I find the coin every time.
When I do the test and I think about finding the coin my results are different. The best was 60% finds but the usual is between 30% and 50% finds. I have done this test more than 20 times.
The only conclusion I can make is that the best way for me to Dowse is to rely on the signal lines that run North, South, East and West and keep my mind occupied with other thoughts. ..Art

This is the first Question I ask on this web site around four years ago. How do I eliminate Micro-Gold signals ? For me this is a big problem. With the advise from others I have been able to eliminate about 50 % of these signals. Do the Mental Dowsers have this problem ? I can process the Micro-Gold but I would rather be digging bigger pieces...Art

I was doing a job and was using 308L Stainless Steel Rod. I made a set of L-rods the first being 32 inches long. To my surprise the rods locked when I stepped on a coin. I trimmed them 1 inch at a time and checked them. They would only lock every time that I had trimmed off 4 inches. This reminds me of adjusting the SWR's of a CB antenna. Could I have been matching the wave length of the rods to the coin or matching the rods wave length to my body Art

Let's talk about caves or tunnel Dowsing. When I ask for advise I received a lot of help. It seems the rod reaction is different for each person and it is a mental exercise. I went to an old mine that I assumed came out in a canyon about 4 miles down the mountain. I went to the exit and measured how wide the tunnel was. I went up the mountain about a 100 yards and checked my rods. I found that my rods would close and stay closed as long as I was over the tunnel. I followed it up hill taking a GPS reading every 1/10 of a mile. I then plotted the tunnel on a map and extended the lines until it crossed one of the many roads in the area. I repeated this at each road crossing until I got to the mine entrance. I also located two air vents on the way up. Since then I have checked a few more mine tunnels and found that it works....Art

Some of you will remember that I did some experiments using 44 lbs. of gold. I was able to eleminate the signal from the gold. It didn't work in the field the first time I tried it. A hot rock had a signal that read as 44 lbs. of gold. I will still us this method while I do more research....Art

Hey russau....Thanks for the information. It has been a few years since I used different size rods to null signals. Can't remember if I tried larger dia. or not. I will give it a try. Every since I found that I could disrupt the rods with a couple of non electronic gadgets I have been working on that. I thought I had found the answer but I was in error. Things were a little confussing around our site as I was trying to test equipment and give instructions to some kids ( 39 year olds are still kids ) I had two signals at the same depth 8 inches apart. I assumed it was a gold bar. At least it was only 18 inches deep.
One of the kids has given me some ideas for an electronic devise so I am working on that...Art

Sorry to say that I have had several EXPERTS in Dowsing go over a few ariel photos that I have and 7 out of 10 picked A DIFFERENT LOCATION. One person I actually took to a HOT spot. He was using what he called a Spainish Needle. He failed pretty bad and when he talked to the maker the maker asked him was there anyone around that has ESP. When he said yes he sluffed off andf said this was the reason why the needle did not work. He never came back. Over the years I have developed a little talent myself in this fireld. But instead of using a rod I I use a sample of the same type material that I am looking for. Gold for gold and silver for silver. I do not use any gold that has an alloy. I hammer the gold into a pointer and punch a hole in the top of my gold plum bob. I then put a piece of thread through the hole. I use fresh thread. I wash my hands in cold water and start. When I feel a bump this tells me that I am within the FIELD. If you watch closely you will see the PLUM BOB start going in a circle. I have not done this for a long long time but just might start again. \

Hey peg legged....I don't claim to be an expert at anything. I try to pass along information of how things work for me. I am new to map dowsing and find it to be interesting. I practice by locating schools and parks in cities that I know nothing about. Sometimes I am right on and other times I am blocks away.
When it comes to Spanish Needles it is my understanding that it takes two people to operate them. I have met people who had no idea or chance of finding anything with dowsing rods who claimed to be experts. I worked with a gentleman a few weeks ago that his rods would swing backward and when they hit his chest he was on the signal line or the target. He wanted to know if he should change his methods. I could clearly see that he was finding the targets and knew what the rods were telling him. My answer to him was why mess with something that is working.....Art

I was looking for a post of mine and found that it was now gone...I think it is important so I will put here.. This is my version of a Blind test. I use halves of 6 Plastic Easter eggs and a coin. I give my wife the coin and she goes out the back door and I stay inside while she places the coin under one of the egg halves. She then goes around the house and knocks on the front door. I go out, not having any contact with her. I start Locating thinking of anything else except for the Rods.
Why do I do these test? To see if I am still doing it right. I refuse to let the Ideomotor Effects control my rods UNLESS I want it to. When I test in my backyard I know that some mystery signal from a SUV will not block my signals. ..Art

You know Art, I constantly see you cutting and pasting stuff on the various forums about ideomotor effects, but the statement above leads me to believe that you aren't even reading or are aware of what you are posting. You see, by the very nature of the ideomotor effect, the conscious mind is NOT aware of it occurring. Therefore, it is not possible for you to refuse to let it influence your rods. Your rods simply would not react AT ALL, in any of your tests, if the ideomotor response had not occurred first. Sorry... but that's just the way it works. Try reading some of the stuff you have posted, and maybe it will become clear to you. Maybe.....

Try reading some of the stuff you have posted, and maybe it will become clear to you. Maybe..... Totally untrue or else your use of English is poor. If so, I apologise. The conscious mind is not directing the muscular action consciously, but the subject is almost always aware of the ideometer effect? All mental dowsers know of it. Don't be ridiculous. You can't see the wood for the trees, it seems. It's what the ideometer effect as a process, points the searcher to, that is at the heart of what Tneters wish to know. i.e. TREASURE. Ever hear of it? T-r-e-a-s-u-r-eNET. Get the idea? I am quite sure that I have read Art many times before explain that he is a physical dowser. And he has expressly mentioned the use of a frame that precludes the effects of the ideometer effect and backs up his signal line approach. You really should get up to speed on another poster's stance before you attack aimlessly. Anyone can see that, although Art resurrected this thread (a thread that was protected from the blatant harassment of lesser hobbyists), you have now poisoned it with unnecessary personal attack and infringement on the hobbies of others. I hope the moderators are watching you very closely because your purpose here on Tnet is singular and your presence is insulting to the extreme. But apparently, --deleted-- manners is not a valid reason for them to show you the door. Ah well....... Keep adding to this thread Art. Excellent stuff buddy.

Rave on... you are just digging a deeper hole for yourself. BTW, the hole you're digging is empty, just like all the rest of them.

They are called DIFINATIONS Ted…You know the little thing that tells us what words mean..It is not my problem that you get all the wrong information from the SKEPTICS DICTIONARY and the SKEPTICS BIBBLE…They keep telling you that you are the ENLIGHTED PEOPLE and you buy into every thing that they tell you…….Art
See now, why I could not answer Aft in that thread? I think that what you state above perfectly summarizes it up.
